A dispute over marijuana leads to fight, according to Le Roy Police

posted by Howard B. Owens in batavia, crime, Le Roy.

A Le Roy man allegedly stole marijuana from a suspected drug dealer, who then brought friends back from Batavia, leading to a fight at 31 Myrtle St., Le Roy, on Jan. 23.

santiago.jpgSought in connection with the fight is James J. Santiago Jr., 30, of 31 Myrtle St., Le Roy. The arrest warrant charges him with robbery 3rd (stealing the marijuana), assault 2nd and criminal possession of a weapon 3rd. (Santiago is pictured left.)

Already in custody is Ronald G. Carney, 21, of 1990 Genesee Street Road, Corfu. Carney, who reportedly suffered a three-inch cut to his neck in the fight, is charged with burglary 2nd. Carney is accused of entering Santiago's home with the intent to commit a crime. He was jailed on $1,000 bail. (Carney is pictured below.)

According to Le Roy Police Det. John Condidorio, two Le Roy residents ordered two ounces of marijuana from a dealer in Batavia. The deal was to take place around 10 p.m. in a parking lot on Lake Street. As the deal went down, Santiago allegedly stole the marijuana and fled with two other men.

The person who had the marijuana stolen called friends in Batavia. He then returned to Batavia and met up with five other people, and all six reportedly returned to Le Roy with the intent of recovering the marijuana.

mug_carney.jpgThe six individuals arrived in Le Roy and walked into Santiago's home and reportedly confronted Santiago. Santiago allegedly refused to return the marijuana, and the confrontation reportedly became physical.

Police say the weapons used in the fight included a knife and golf clubs.

There were initially reports of shots fired, but Le Roy Police have been unable to corroborate the use of a gun in the incident.

A total of nine people were involved in the alleged melee.

The six people who attempted to retrieve the marijuana fled the scene without it, according to police.

A total of three people, including Carney, suffered knife cuts and were treated and released at area hospitals, according to police.

The investigation is continuing and further arrests are pending.

The Le Roy Police are seeking the public's help in locating Santiago.

The problem here isn't the marijuana, it's the mentality of people willing to be miscreant idiots. Grow your own and you won't have to steal it or deal it. Oh, yeah, and get a freakin' JOB. Stop being a bunch of bums.

I learned something today - It's illegal to steal illegal drugs from a drug dealer. Who knew!

I love how people think that if someone is involved with pot they are a bum and don't have a job.

Quote Erika S. - "I love how people think that if someone is involved with pot they are a bum and don't have a job" Erika..I clearly said it has nothing to do with pot. Did you miss that part? I also said that if they grow their own, they'd not have to be bums and steal it or deal it. How'd you get so confused? I know that daily use can cause confusion, though.

Hey Tom, It's coincidental that you asked me about facebook. Just today a "friend" on facebook posed this question on her wall. I've known her for 19 years..something like that. "So the question I have for all of you is: do you make someone your friend just because you know them? Or because they really are your friend? I guess my take on it is if I were in trouble for some reason, I feel I could count on my fb friends to help me. I don't "friend" someone just because I know you. Give me your take." I don't mean for it to be rude but I'm going to decline. You and I have no history, have never met and I really don't know you except from comments here. In fact, I'm getting ready to trim the "fat" from my friends list..those who never say anything. All I ever see from them is their farmville score or some other annoying cause they've joined. They get blocked fast. I think I'll start with my blocked list..HAHA! It's all good, Tom. Thank you for the invite. Stay safe and we'll keep on slingin' the mud here.

I've always had a policy -- accept all invites on Facebook, but only accept invites on LinkedIn from people I've actually had professional dealings with or long-time friends. Because I've been well known in the online news industry for some time, I tend to get invites in both venues from people I know nothing about. To me, FB is casual, so I don't want to decline somebody and risk appearing ungrateful for their interest. But LinkedIn is all about professional reputation and communication, so I'm more selective. On The Batavain, I used to do like Tom of MySpace and friend everybody, but I found a lot of people either never responded or didn't get the whole "Tom of MySpace" concept and didn't like some guy they never met friending them, so I stopped.
