Is there a weekend market or another market option for those of us who work outside of Batavia? I love farmer's markets and all of the great stuff they bring to an area, but I'm in Henrietta from 8-5 most days

It would be nice to be able to go to the farm market, but all of us working fools are working 9-5. I would think that they would want to keep this open later.

Chelsea and Richard - I made the same comment when the hours were first announced. If they could even keep it open until 6 it would be helpful.

Rochester has the public market which I think is open on Saturdays and Sundays. I've heard it is awesome. One of my friends gets up at 5 in the morning to get the best stuff and to beat the crowds. I would love something like that here but I'm not sure if there is enough interest.

Beth, when I first moved to Campbell, I couldn't wait for my first visit to the market. Little did I know it took up almost the entire business district
It was only a few blocks from my apartment so I decided to walk.
As soon as I started down the street towards the business district, I knew this was not your average farmers' market. I joined a parade of people all walking.
The sights, sounds, and aromas made you take notice. Every available outdoor cafe table was taken by people who brought their Sunday paper to read over coffee and to watch the people.
Batavia is the county seat of an agricultural area, it wouldn't be a stretch to think it could have the reputation of having the biggest and best farmers' market in three counties.

They closed early. I went down at 2 to get Chelsea some flowers and everyone was tearing down or gone. So she got a new fish instead.

And thus, why it will never be that way. I would love to know the marketing plan that arrived at Thursday's from 9:30AM - 3:00PM as being the best possible option. The only explanation I can think of is it was the only day/time left any of the vendors were not already committed elsewhere.

Peter: Present Tense has fresh garden flowers all summer long. The owner's mother makes the bouquets; they are beautiful and very reasonably priced ($7.00 for a big bunch).

The Genesee Country Farmers' Market is Tuesdays and Fridays at the Batavia Downs lot and is open from 8am to 5pm. They have opened for pre-season in June but will have more vendors once the regular season begins on July 7. I believe the Downtown Public Market was on Saturdays last year - not sure why they switched to Thursdays for this season.

He won't buy me dead/cut flowers, so he more than likely meant he was going to buy flowers that he liked, so I could plant them, and he can take pictures of and brag about.

Perhaps they closed early because of the impending rain storm.
Sitting under a tarp, in the middle of an electrical storm, waiting for one customer who MIGHT brave the rain is not economical nor is it safe.
Thursdays may not be the best day, and it may be the only day the vendors had available. However, I can't fault them for closing early in light of the weather.

I'm aware of the impending weather. However, having gone to it last year a couple of times later in the day, on a perfectly good day, closing early seems to be the norm.

The Genesee Country Farmers Market is open 8-5 BUT most of us vendors are there by 6:30 - 7:00 a.m. setting up and by the time we tear down at night it is usually going on 6 p.m. - we would never turn a customer away! Just because we are not set up all the way we would be more than happy to get you whatever you would like off our truck!! We are there every Tuesday and Friday (rain or shine - but we prefer shine!!) And we will be there until October 30th! Plus at our market it is pretty much fruits, vegetables, plants, baked goods - and our market is 100% homegrown - if you don't grow it or bake it you can't bring it to our market!! Come check us out!

Yes you can't miss us - we are right in the Downs parking lot! We have new vendors this year too - there is the Niagara Wine Trail - they give out free samples too! We have a Maple Syrup vendor - Perl's - he is even bringing a new cheeese that Yantzi's Fancy's makes - it is cheddar cheese with maple syrup in it - it is very good! Lots of new produce showing up every week!!!!

Niagara Wine Trail? Free samples? I was going to stop before work. I'm not sure my employer would appreciate that:) Maybe I'll stop after work instead. Thanks Gail.

Be sure to stop down to the Farmer's Market for the freshest fruits and vegetables. Strawberry season will soon be a memory...but good news...cherries are here! Stock up for your July 4th celebration. Not only are there lots of new market stalls, as Gail stated, the vendors at the Genesee Country Farmer's Market are more than happy to talk to you about their products - how it was grown, how best to prepare it, as well as tips for storing or preserving. Fruit wines from Marjim Manor will be on hand tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30 and the Genesee County Cooperative Extension shows up every Friday with ideas on how to feed your family healthy, flavorful meals. Hope to see everyone there!

Closed early again today or there is only one vendor. I went by at 2:45 after getting out of work early. There was one tent up with a few people. The table was hardly occupied. It wasn't even worth stopping.

Again I guess weather could be a factor but the street and sidewalk were dry suggesting it hadn't rained for a few hours in Batavia.
