Photo: Dog with deer carcass along Route 33, Bergen

By Howard B. Owens

This domestic dog found a deer carcass along Route 33 near Maple Avenue this afternoon.

Wow. What a photo! I can't count how many carcasses are seen all along the roads this past year.

How did you ever capture that pic, Howard? He looks either hungry, or just being a dog.(?)

Hitting a deer (or a deer hitting a car ~ what is the difference) is always traumatic. Been there, done that.

Do those little deer decectors really work? The ones that you place on you vehicles?

He was actually a pretty passive dog. I probably could have gotten even closer. He didn't mind me at all. A woman walked up to my truck while I was there and he just ignored us both. I just happened to catch this picture as he was trying to tear off a piece of meat and he lifted the carcass off the ground.

Good picture Howard! Now all you need is to get one of those vultures in the summertime having a snack.... yeah, after you left, the dog probably rolled on/near the carcass so he can smell nice when he returns home....I remember when our beagle used to take off, then come back hours later, fur all matted and smelly......
