Today's Poll: Are you going to vote on Tuesday?

That was debunked Bud. It was another Caputo fantasy, much like when they said Carl commanded 250 troops in Texas when he was actually just there for training.

I like that Paladino isn't afraid to say what he feels regaurdless of the political fall out. If more polititions were that honest we might not be in this mess. I might not agree with some of the things he has said but I like that he is not afraid to say it.

Bud, claiming that someone is connected to the Mafia is serious.
Coming from a family of Sicilian extraction, I consider that very serious. How much more narrow minded can you get. Not everyone with an Italian last name was (or is) connected to the mob.
Kinky Carl's penchant for porn, bigotry, racism, and bestiality is far closer to reality than your statement.

Bea, last name was not my basis. Powerful people have connections with powerful people. With Andrew's heritage of political connectivity, i'm sure he has connections. Narrow minded? You don't know me, so you have little to base that assertion upon. I stand by what I say, and I can't wait till this election is done. prince Andrew is going to disappoint Ny'ers like Obama is disappointing Americans.

Peter, First, your reading comprehension needs improvement, that article states that the distant cousin did NOT have any mafia ties.

Second, Paladino's much publicized porn emails, bigotry and other distasteful personality traits and practices have happened well outside the bedroom.

Chris, you better read the article again, and since when is a first cousin a distant cousin?

Italian police also launched an investigation into the execution- , style slaying of Businessman Francesco Gitto, 58, a first cousin of Matilda Cuomo, the wife of New York Governor Mario Cuomo. Gitto, a well-known figure in his hometown of Barcellona in eastern Sicily, was not known to have Mafia ties. But police said the .38-cal. pistol used to kill him had been used in two other suspected Mafia homicides.

It is implied that the mafia ties were a surprise.

style slaying of Businessman Francesco Gitto, 58, a first cousin of Matilda Cuomo

First cousin of the WIFE ...

, the wife of New York Governor Mario Cuomo. Gitto, a well-known figure in his hometown of Barcellona

So he was well known in his hometown. Does this make a connection?

in eastern Sicily, was not known to have Mafia ties.

Was NOT known to have mafia ties.

But police said the .38-cal. pistol used to kill him had been used in two other suspected Mafia homicides.

So people read between the lines and pick out what they want. They guy was well known in his home town. He is related to Matilda, and was not known to have mafia ties.

That makes him part of the mafia?

Your mother's first cousin is your second. Distant both in blood ties and, in this case, geographically.

News reports don't make implications, they state facts. The fact stated was: Gitto, a well-known figure in his hometown of Barcellona in eastern Sicily, was not known to have Mafia ties.

Keep it up though. It doesn't matter to certain people around here that Cuomo is one of the most vetted people in the country. Just keep throwing that mud against the wall.

Chris, you might have a future writing comedy. That's a good one.

Quick error fix, your mother's cousin is your first cousin once removed due to a shared great-grandparent. After that it gets really confusing.

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why eligible people would not vote, or not even to have decided if they will.

This country is based on the right of it's citizenry's right to vote and guide the direction of our country. In my personal opinion, we have failed to do that, and the result is obvious.

It matters not whether or not you are far left, or far right, or anywhere in between. It is your responsibility - your OBLIGATION - to get out and vote. Many of your friends and neighbors, myself included, have gone to war to defend this right. Many have died in doing so, yet you fail to get off your couch or bar stool to justify their sacrifice.

For those of you that won't vote, and are content to be led around by the nose by those in power, I submit to you that you lose your right to voice an opinion in this forum or any other. I would venture a guess that many of you sit around and b!@ch about everything, but are too lazy to do anything about it.

It's also a right not to vote.

And that came be a statement, too, either implied or explicit.

And voting has proven it's no cure for being led around by the nose.

I don't know, if someone was killed by a gun that was also used in Mafia executions, the Mafia was involved....seems like a connection to me....

A connection to whom? Peter, this has passed the threshold of silly and passed into the ridiculous. Not every Italian is Gotti and anyone who thinks otherwise is as ignorant as they come.

Bob Harker

Yes, it is a right not to vote.

It is also a right to be ignorantly immune to being aware of what is happening to our country and comfortable in your shell.

By your comment, Howard, I take it that you believe that voting is not worthwhile? We can't change our direction? Take control back from those that believe that they run things - not the American conscience?

that's sad.

Howard, people have the right not to vote but I think it's irresponsible not to. Everyone is in the same boat so if it's sinking, everyone should be obligated to try and help bail out the water. I feel that if you don't help bail and end up drowning in the sinking boat, you deserve it. If you help bail water and still drown, at least you can go out with dignity.

Peter,
Hypothetical scenario....
You are walking down the street. Shots are fired and you are shot and killed. In the course of the investigation, it is discovered that the bullets that took you down were fired from a gun used in two homocides connected with mob activity.
Does that make you involved in mob activity? Does that bullet automatically make you a member of the mob?
Please explain that connection again.

Bea,
This mafia stuff came up when his dad ran and it was bull then and is now. But for you to criticize someone for an unjustified connection lacks credibility.

John,
I didn't raise the bunk about the mafia connection. I responded to it. I didn't make the silly connection between the bullet and the mafia, I responded to it.
Get a life, John.

The list of candidates names on the posters on my neighbors lawns could be a list of characters in a Scarsese Film

I always vote in the general election. But have not voted on a school budget in years, waste of my time and effort. They get what they want no matter what the voter thinks.

The names on your neighbors lawn are the alpha and the omega of politics this year. They may have the same ethnic background, but the difference between the two is miles apart.
Kinky Carl is rough around the edges, to be sure. But, that can be overlooked. His distribution of horse porn; racism; bigotry; and the now infamous "I'm going to take you out!" statement is an indication of someone who should not represent New York State.
Andrew would be my choice of the two regardless of my political bent. He has the know how to reach across party lines to get things done.
You may look at the names and see characters in a film. I look at the names and see the best and worst of this year's candidates.

I should mention robo-calls- the political version of telemarketing. Any politician who employed this obnoxious and dialogue-negating scheme on me, lost my vote. It is indicative of the condescending attitude politicians direct at voters in general and demonstrates a lethargic and subordinating lack of interest for interacting with constituency. I live in the village of Bergen, and not a single indication of any candidate visiting my residence- no brochures, no palm cards, no swag: nada, zilch, nothing. I wouldn't mind if a candidate representative visited instead. Not meeting voters face-to-face to sample the average citizen's concerns and frustrations simply epitomizes the disconnect between politicians and those they represent.

I've been knocking on doors since primary season back in June. In all the time I have spent throughout the 139th District I have seen but one other candidate, a judicial candidate from Orleans County. In a few cases while campaigning in Batavia, I recognized literature attributed to my opponent. By far my personal visits generated comment, "You're the first politician ever to knock at my door..." ...A sad commentary- though meaningful in terms of the number of voters who feel abandoned by their state government.

Ken, this election is about far more than a school budget. It is quite literally about stopping the fascist path / wealth redistribution that is happening before our very eyes.

Bob, please pick an extremist political ideology to try and paint democrats with and stick with it. One cannot be both a communist and a fascist.
