Black is too gloomy. Red, however, gets me fired up. Lets spend ourselves silly, party like it's almost midnight and stick it back to the credit card companies when the house of ill repute comes crashing in on itself.
Merry Chistmas to all and to all a good life.

Oh yes, let's all go shopping the day after Thanksgiving. I had to work today and driving into work I looked over and Kmart parking lot was all the way out to the road with cars. Yup, how many accidents will there be today? I want to go into a store and fight with someone for that perfect Christmas Present! Only to have the person not like it!!! I'll wait thank you!!

Even when my children were young I never participated in this strange ritual of getting up at the crack of dawn, and now much earlier, to shove and push through other shoving and pushing masses to buy cheap junk made in other countries. Just doesn't seem like fun to me. I do have friends and family members that participate and really enjoy it and to them I say "better you than me".

I'm with Sheryl. I'll wait. And I like to challenge myself to the "buy local" creed and make a lot of my own gifts. I know it's harder when you have little ones that want the latest and greatest toys, but I don't have little ones to buy for, so my goal is to try not to step foot in a "big box" the entire season.

I almost waited in line once for Nintendo 64 but then my wife saved my butt by paying a mere thirty dollars more somewhere else. I still thank her. I hate WalMart.

Howard, we may not agree on many things, but we're right on the same page when it comes to buying local and local sustainability.
George, I hate Wal-Mart. I hate it even more since it expanded in Batavia to try and corner the market on groceries. I used to go in once in a great while to buy canvas panels for my art classes. Since Michael's has come to town I don't think I've been in Wal-Mart once. I wish that Sleights was still around. They had a wide variety of art supplies in the basement and were a great local store.

For the first time in many years,I slept in......glad I did.I bet that was chaos at Wal Mart this morning when they evacuated the store, then they had to wait in line to get back in(and hopefully get their cart back!) I am beginning to really detest Christmas.....stores shouldn't be allowed to put Christmas items on display until after Christmas. It's too commercialized now,all about the dollar, not the meaning.......

So far I haven't heard any comments from the ones who actually do this "black friday" early morning thing! They are all sleeping now, I suppose!

I agree with all said so far...I used to make my own gifts before I worked 8:30-5 every day.

I do go to WalMart to buy some things, mostly groceries (not meat) and every day stuff (shampoo,etc.). I look at the price of certain things at Tops and compare to WalMart & others. For instance, at WalMart a large tub of "I Can't Believe it's Not Butter" is 5.00, at Tops the same size tub is 8.79. Single mom, helping a kid thru college, I'm choosing the cheaper. It would be crazy for me to buy the more expensive! Tops
isn't "local" either. For "groceries" there is no "local" choice anymore. I shop Aldi's too, and even Save-a-Lot in LeRoy or Albion on occasion.

I still shop local for many things, whenever I can! But the economy has taken us all to a new level of awareness about what we are spending and families that are hurting are going to do what they have to, to survive.

Lorie, I miss Sleight's too! I used to go there for my art supplies also, among other things! It was an icon in the "old Batavia".

Good Luck to all getting those gifts you want or need, and Happy Holiday...or is it ok for me to say "Merry Christmas" in here? LOL

Amy I totally understand, except how could anyone not believe that congealed oil is not butter? I Can't Believe Some People Can't Believe it's Not Butter. It's not, believe me, it's not. I know Butter really well and It's Not Butter. Merry Xmas y'all.

George, I don't eat the crap, my adult daughter likes it, and I buy it for her. You are so right in the fact that it's "ick". I've been thru the whole drill with her about the oil, etc., but she's decided that this is what she wants (influence from other side of family). She's 20 and can chose how she wishes to stop up her arteries. I buy the "real" thing, and use it in moderation. My folks never used anything else when I was growing up. Merry Christmas to you too... :) and to everyone who comes to the "Batavian".
