Today's Poll: How concerned are you about the natural environment?

Dennis,
I don't think either scenario is going to happen, perhaps you should shut off the Discovery Channel and join the real world......I'm just saying.......not a personal attack, mind you!! :)

"We don't inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children." Native American Proverb

"All things in moderation, including moderation." Mark Twain

Global Warming is real. We have effected our environment

If an ice shelf falls off a glacier, does it mean NYC will be under water? No

If we have a colder winter this year than the norm, does it mean Global Warming is a myth? No

As in most hot-button issues, most of the rhetoric is just one side or the other defending their agenda.

there is no Global Warming that man is causing, Al Gor holks, hes not liminting his carbon foot print nor is Obama, he keeps all his plains in the air most of the time lol.the ice age is still receding , north pole will be tropical as it once was and we will have a ice age again ,its the way the world runs, nothing we can do, humans will some day be gone from earth. but i got more inportant stuff to worry about then stuff that will happen years from now.

You can't talk about the environment these days without mentioning global warming.

But I wasn't responding to you. I was responding to comments above I see as totally equating environmentalism with global warming.

To me, that's taking the eye off of the ball.

If we were to take protecting the environment seriously, to whatever extent there is human caused global warming would pretty much take care of itself.

Just be a conservationist. This is something most hunters and fishers, I think, understand.

LOL I love this subject. First of all I'd like to point out that we arent saving the world, just our species (and alot of others of course) place on it. Even nuclear war couldnt wipe everything off this planet. It will survive, and life will come back. After all everything we use on this planet is from this planet.

That said I do agree though we need to be careful if we want to live and live comfortably on this world. I remember the days when Lake Erie was considered an almost "dead" lake, when most of the waters around here were lifeless and disgusting. Then in the 70's and 80's we took a few steps to improve our water quality. Manage the fish and help them along (Also we accidentally introduced invasive species of mussels as well which helped) and here we are today. Lake Ontario and Erie have day which we have water that is gin clear, salmon and trout are coming back and we can eat the fish once again (in limited quanities still but its improving) All with just a few painless adjustments.

As for global warming....well we are warmer at times, but it seems just a few years ago we were being warned that we might be sliding into a mini ice age, when we had cooler summers and lower winter temps. So which is is mr. scientistits my opinion that these are just trends, which become blown out of proportion when scientist A needs more money for his research. Thats my opinion for now. But with mankind's luck we would turn around and do everything for the environment and get it turned around, just in time for a nice sized space rock to come and wipe most of us out.

Love George Carlin. Global warming isn't our only problem. The inorganic compounds man is creating and spewing about the planet likely will cause great pains to future generations.

I can't help to think that people a couple hundred years from now will look back on the 20th and 21st centuries and ask "What were they thinking??"

The furthering of the Global Warming alarmists agenda is necessary for them to keep making millions of dollars in the Cap and Trade market. It's what gives carbon offsets their "value" in an exchange market.

Imagine, making millions of dollars trading something that "doesn't even exist", all in the name of saving the planet.

Howard is correct in that environmental issues go way beyong Global Warming. I for one believe Global Climate change is total crap and a fabrication of a leftist agenda. That being said, I am also a strong believer in taking care of the earth that God entrusted to us. In fact, after destroying the earth by flood, God made a covenent with man not to destroy the earth again sending the rainbow as a sign of that covenent (Genesis 9). Covenents go both ways and it is our duty not to wantonly destroy the earth through reckless use of it's resources. That is why we recycle everything we can, we drink from reusable water bottles to save the plastic from the landfills, we use cloth shopping bags, and compost yard waste where we can. Taking care of the environment is all our responsibility but we shouldn't be coerced into it through unproven fear tactics. It should be something we do out of compassion for those who come after us.

Joanne - Suggest you seek to understand cap and trade before dismissing it. Emissions trading has been around since the 1970s, and is widely credited with helping to reduce air pollution. It is market-based, and actually developed by conservative economists. Read up on it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cap_and_trade.

And for the life of me I am trying to understand how global warming alarmists would make millions off of it. Are they cornering the market on carbon offsets?

I believe in global warming. When the Summer highs hit 115 in ten years, you guys will believe too. Still I'm only mildly concerned. I recycle, compost and ride a bicycle because that's about all I have any control over. I'm more concerned with the increase in brain cancer and sterility caused by long term cellphone use by people who carry the phones in their pockets. They don't put warning labels on them for nothing. I've never had one and I never want one but my son just went to an unlimited minutes plan because he kept running out. The thought of Cellphone Zombies with brain cancer scares the hell out of me. At least they won't be able to reproduce.
