Today's Poll: How do you feel about the snow?

This is not out of season weather for WNY. March had record low for snowfall and some pretty unusual warm temperatures so it may seem strange. I can remember wearing shorts and a T-shirt on Easter and I also remember having some pretty heavy snowfall as well. I guess u can say that WNY'ers are seasoned to handle the seasons.

Only in Ny is it 60 one day, and 20 the next. Maybe the snow will kill all the Black Flys that us country bumpkins have to deal with every year. They are bloodthirsty and vicious. I could only hope for a spring without them. Headnets are very confining.

You should only prune roses (bush)in the fall. You can dead head cut them during the flowering season but never cut them back before or during spring. What kind of roses ?

You don't want to prune them in the fall, because too much risk of frost damage. Roses need to be pruned when they're dormant. In California, that would happen in December or January. Here, you're supposed to wait until the forsythia bloom. I jumped the gun.

I have 19 plants.

Okay late summer. This is WNY and too early spring is same risk for frost. The whole idea is to prune them at the best time during their seasonal zone. especially if they are the more hardy variety that thrive in NYS. I know a lady who past recently that swears by different rose bush rules coz of the bush being several generations old and now indigenously adapted to WNY. I have posted some picks of her roses before. If these rose bushes are new or transplants then they need a few seasons to adapt. Any annual plant "dies in the fall" and regenerates in the spring. In WNY the fall season is all about timing.

I did leave WNY for 15 years and came back, happily. The grass isn't always greener, and I will take a little bit of snow any day over what else is out there in other parts of the country.

I confess to one of those votes Tom. I was a little grumpy this morning and not too happy about searching for my daughter's boots, brushing off the car, etc. I'll take this over hurricanes and tornadoes and temperatures over 100 any day though. Is it too late to change my vote Howard?

I lived out west in Arizona and Nevada for close to a decade. I moved back here to be closer to my family and longtime friends. While the weather is something to talk about, I find the people of WNY to be some of the best in the country! Most people anyway, still not crazy about the powermongers in Albany, and lawyers..well lets just not go there. The snow on the ground could be 3 feet right now. That would melt and go away. We're in deep crap as a state, and that ISN'T going away.

Hey Bud I remember my Dad along time ago maybe 20+years ago went to some place in Tennessee to see a friend of his this was during summer and when he got back about 2 weeks later to East Pembroke New York he told me that he had the worst time ever because it was HOT there and if I remember right he said the temps were something like 80 at night to 100+ during the day.

When I was in Fort Jackson South Carolina in 1986 for Army basic training I hated the weather HOT HOT HOT and the 8 weeks I was there it rained 1 time for about 5 minutes so New York weather is not to bad to me compared to other places in the USA as for Albany well like you said best not to go there.
