Truck gets stuck in Oak Street roundabout

By Howard B. Owens

A Food 4 Less delivery truck apparently became stuck in Batavia's Oak Street roundabout this morning.

The police officer who responded reported back to dispatch about 20 minutes later, "Clear CAD. No report. If they drive over the stamped portion of the concrete, they should be OK."

I wonder why traffic is backing up so bad on West Main lately-I drove through there around 4pm and the traffic was backed up to CVS- the truck on Cedar St. hit the overpass Weds. morning-he must've been going pretty slow,as the picture didn't show much damage to top of trailer. What is that-at least one a month hits that bridge......as far as roundabout-I haven't been through there in about a month-isn't it about done????

Bob, they must have been doing something on Oak St. with the roundabout. When I went down Main at 4:30 it was a slow go in that same area, and when I got up to Oak St., the traffic was backed up to the corner going over the bridge. I have also heard that DOT is sending out letters to people that live on Ellicott St. I guess they plan on doing the same thing to Ellicott St. that they did to Oak St., from Main to the thruway. That should be interesting with all of the tractor trailers that use 63.

I was coming from Elba going to Alexander for a soccer game this afternoon about 3:40 p.m. I waited almost 5 minutes once I was through the light at Main Street before I was able to drive around the roundabout. There was a school bus about 3 cars behind me stuck in the intersection of Main and 98 trying to turn south on 98. There was nowhere for the bus to go because traffic was backed up so bad.

The truckers have already found a solution to the infamous roundabout........they're starting to use River St to cut over to Rt 33.

Let's hear it for the Einstein's at DOT. Now the City Council can pass a weight limit for River St so the trucks can't go that way.......or will someone have to be critically injured by one of these trucks before something is done?

There's a lot of multi-family structures in that area.
