Weather: Snow just starting, but should taper off this afternoon

By Howard B. Owens

The prediction of snow today is just starting to come true -- there's some light flurries outside. The chance of snow in the 2 p.m.hour is put at 80 percent, but drops off quickly, as does the temperature.  We should drop from about 35 degrees to 31 by early evening, and then the temperatures creep back up to the mid-30s after 9 p.m.

There could be more snow this evening.

There's about a 30 percent chance of precipitation throughout most of tomorrow, with the chance of snow changing to a chance of rain by 3 p.m., when temperatures are expected to hit about 38 degrees.

Weather.com's 10-day forecast has temperatures in the 30s with varying degrees of possible rain or snow.

On the other side of the street is the Monument to William Morgan, possibly murdered by the Loyal Order of Freemason's. In an American History course that I took a few years ago at the University of Texas, the Professor showed a slide of the Monument and said it was in Buttahveeyuh, New York. I corrected her pronunciation in private after the class. It's BuhTAAAAAVeeyuh.

Howard I grew up on Prune Street, we used to break those windows for fun with snow balls while we were waitin to hop the train to get a ride to the YMCA. Take it from me that area fosters juvenile delinquency in every form of illegal and deviant behavior you can possibly imagine.

Richard, the Y was only a ten minute walk from there. Frickin' riff raff. Just kidding, I honed my juvenile deliquency a bit in the area of town you are talking about, as well. I worked on it in a lot of different neighborhoods in Batavia, now that I think of it. That Industrial Incubator is a good chunk of the history that is still left of Batavia's former glory. Leave it be and put a cool nightclub in there somewhere.

There's a lot of potential in that old building.

Now you have Patty Hawley getting the arts center going there.

The last thing Batavia wants to do is tear down its remaining old buildings and destroy the city's character.

Just because something is old, beat up and in a little dis-repair doesn't mean you just trash it. Reference "Seabiscuit" one of my favorite movies. Also, if that were true, I'd be gone.

Perhaps if Mr. Gahagan would explain why he hates Batavia so much and why he feels it is his mission to constantly put the city down then we could understand why he pays so much attention to a city he no longer calls home.
The Johnston Harvester (Massey Harris, BIC) is a Batavia landmark that is still thriving. Why would you tear it down?
Living on Prune St. should have been a wonderful childhood.
