Noise from the race track.

By Jim Cody

I'm wondering if anyone beside myself is interested in perusing some sort of action to do something about the noise from the racing at the fairgrounds every Saturday night.

I live on Horseshoe Lake and it's impossible to carry on a normal conversation outside during the races. If I want to watch TV I have to turn the volume up so loud the neighbors hear it between races!

To me it seems incredibly selfish for the racers to impose their choice of recreation on anyone within 10 miles. I've been told they are required to use mufflers but they just install mufflers that are basically mufflers in name only. I have done some research and there are towns that have passed noise limits based on decibel limits at a set distance.

I have spoken to some people and I'm told that the cars can be heard in most parts of Batavia.

If I get enough interest I will work with others to see what can be done. It would be nice to have a peaceful and quite summer Saturday night for a change.
