Muckdogs Lose Both of Doubleheader By a Run Each

By Mollie Radzinski

Offense showed up for Batavia (9-8) but pitching couldn't hold the leads as they lost both seven-inning games to Auburn (8-9) by scores of 3-2 and 11-10.

In the first of the twinbill, the Muckdogs scored a run each in the 5th and 6th but pitchers Santo Maertz and LaCurtis Mayes let up three runs in the 6th to blow the lead.  Mayes suffered the loss in one inning with one run, one hit and two strikeouts.  Christopher Corrigan had a good start, throwing four innings with no runs, three hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

Ryde Rodriguez went 3-for-4 and Alan Ahmady and Niko Vasquez had two hits each.  Jairo Martinez added some offense of his own with his first homerun of the season in the 6th inning.

In the second game, Batavia quickly jumped to a 6-0 lead after the first.  However, starter Tyler Leach gave up five runs in the 2nd and Auburn sneaked past Batavia for the 11-10 win.

Leach lasted an inning and 2/3 with five runs off five hits, two walks and two strikeouts.  Dan Richardson got the loss in his one and 2/3 innings of relief.  He let up two runs on three hits with one strikeout.

D'Marcus Ingram, Ahmady and Rodriguez all had two hits in the game.  Batavia now sits tied with State College and Williamsport one game out of first place in the division behind Mahoning Valley.  They face Auburn once more tonight before traveling south for a three game set with State College.
