Photos: Experimenting with night photography at Main and Ellicott

By Howard B. Owens

Arriving back in Batavia from Geneseo at dusk, I remembered that one of the pictures I've been thinking about trying to get, is the front of Batavia Police Station at night because of the funky green lights on the front of the building. That led to a general playing around with night photography at the intersection of Main and Ellicott streets. These are the four photos from that session.

The fourth one is nice Howard. You should trying doing a longer exposure time. Use a neutral density filter. That should let you leave the shutter open a bit longer. I think you would like the results.

These pictures are really nice, Howard. What is with the green lights on the police station building? Never noticed them before, I'll have to go by and check them out next time I go through the city at night.
Anyway - love the angles and lights on the monument (which by the way has received a lot of press this past few month! LOL!) Good job!

Jeremiah, actually I was planning on ordering -- and just did, in fact -- a neutral density filter because I believe it will help with the outdoor sports.
