The city's revenue from Falleti Ice Arena is expected to double under terms of a new lease negotiated with Firland Management.
Lease payments will jump from $7,000 a year to $15,000 a year and by the fourth year of the lease, reaching $20,000 per year.
Proceeds from the lease, Batavia City Manager Jason Molino said, are held in reserve.
“Those funds are to be put into a capital improvement fund for capital improvements that may need to be done to the facility that the city is responsible for at a later point in time," Molino said.
The city council is expected to approve the lease at its next business meeting.

This is not good news for a struggling Youth Hockey organization who has to set high prices to offset ice fees and by doubling that amount I'm afraid we will be losing a lot of youth to play locally in Batavia.

Personally I think this was a horrible idea and I agree with Steve. It's only going to increase ice rates (which Firland has a history of doing), resulting in less people playing, business lost and were gonna be back in the situation of "should we sell the rink, numbers are decreasing"...
Although on the other side... a lease for only $15,000 per year? That's cheaper than a Main St. 1500 sq foot space.

I agree with Don. If the city is not going to privatize the rink, the tax payer should get the best return on its investment as it can. Overall, it's a good contract.
