Snow mounds in Batavia growing tall

posted by Philip Anselmo in weather, snow, winter.

Driving along Main Street this afternoon, it dawned on me that I couldn't see some of the shopping plazas I normally pass by on my drive between Clinton Street Road and Center Street. Well, they were still there, only they were blocked by the mounds of snow like walls stacked high at the front of the parking lots. Down near Masse Place, in fact, you can't see any of the shops from the street. This is all you're going to see:

So this got me wondering: Where's the tallest snow mound in Batavia? This one looks like it could fit the bill, but I haven't been everywhere.

I see alot of other towns cutting down the snow mounds. Maybe they are in a "war room" stratagizing on which one to attack first! lol just a thought.

Ritchie: I've always thought it would be cool to see guys out with flame-throwers melting them down. "Take that, winter!" (Seriously though, I don't suggest you try this at home.)

Just as a side note to parents that may be reading this. Please keep your kids away from the piles of snow near the road. As tempting as the piles are, they can be deadly. Several times over the years I have seen near misses. People move to the right (sometimes) when emergency vehicles are coming up behind them. Kids are tunneling in the pile. They come out to see what is making the noise. Unfortunately, the car that pulled to the right nearly hit the kids. Thank you. P.S. A local store in the Target Plaza sells the coolest manual snowball makers. Great for toddlers to use. Won't give the name outright but it has 4 words in it. Hope that helps.

Philip, I suspect you enjoy using your camera too much. In severe conditions, railroads resort to using the exhaust from railcar-mounted jet engines to eliminate snow. I've heard that this method, while more costly than conventional plowing, is able to cope with significantly-worse conditions.

Phillip: since you're taking pictures of snow... you could get a shot of that cool looking snowman on main st next to pontillo's pizza The T-shirt place used the snow to make a snowman and to advertise. I thought it to be very clever.

Laura: You beat me to the punch! I took a photo of the snowman earlier. I was about to post it... right... now.
