I've seen Dylan almost 40 times since 1999, coast to coast. While his voice has never been good, and is not improving, the guy will be 72 in a few weeks. What will most of us be doinf at 72, let a lone sound like? I saw him last summer at Lewiston's Artpark and was the worst show I have ever seen of his. I swore I wouldn't see him again. Then he came to UB a few weeks ago and he had a "new" guitarist in his band (Duke Robillard) so I thought what the hell... The sound of his band was a complete turnaround from what I saw in Lewiston. More blues sound due to addition of blues guitarist Duke Robillard to the band. His voice is rough, but was a "clear rough" and you could understand him. The show at UB was one of the best I've seen him do in the past 5 years or so.
All I can say is if you expect to go see him play all the hits and for them to sound like they did on record, don't go. He constantly changes his setlist, and the arrangement of the songs. He sings them differently and plays them differently. Since consistantly touring since 1992 without a real break of any kind, you would have to keep your music fresh to avoid burning out. That he has. And don't expect him to get up there and tells jokes and stories. IF you're lucky he'll introduce the band or say "thank you" after a song. That's it. The guy is a songwriter not a singer.
