Bob, I find anyone who hurts children to be reprehensible. At the same time I find suggesting suicide and/or making light of it boorish. Nonetheless, comments are a reflection of the commenter. If that's the person you want to be known as, that's your business. I was just trying to help you find an answer to your question.

I'm sorry but statements like Bob's being boorish is a matter of opinion and not a fact. As a man who 36 yrs ago laid in a hospital with several cracked ribs and vision out of one eye I find his opinion a very reasonable one. I'm sure survivors and mothers all over this country who have been in the same situation would also.

At ten yrs old I was asking God how someone could hate enough to do this to me, it's a question that never got answered and a situation that I lived with til I was big enough to fight back. Its easy to sit back and judge something to be brutal when you haven't been through anything similar.

So while you are judging Bob's so-called boorish statements remember that some of the nicest people you know might have the very same opinions churning in their heads as well, about child abusers, drunk drivers, pedophiles and so on. At 10 yrs old I considered myself unlucky to have survived, longed for the peace of that final rest. But as a 46 yr old I realize now what I would have missed. The rage I feel seethes everytime I read about a child going through this and surviving, or one robbed of a life. Would you call a mother who wished a drunk driver who killed her child to commit suicide a boorish person? How about an adult survivor of rape or molestation that cannot have a serious relationship anymore who vents a similar solution as Bob did?

Those are thing to consider before labeling someone's feelings or expressions as rude or low brow or primative and boorish. So I disagree with Dave to a point comments like this don't necessarily reflect on a commenter's personality as much as they do the commenter's experience.

Really Tim so a person who thinks racist thoughts but never utters them in public is not as racist as one who does? I'm not quite sure how that works. I guess if that makes sense to you ....

Thanks Dave I am mostly at peace with it. However people like Deats and Dibble do tend to spark it now and then. Hence my sympathetic leanings for Mr. Harker's comments.

"Hence my sympathetic leanings for Mr. Harker's comments."

Surely there's nothing more satisfying and therapeutic than the yawlp of the mob.

It works in the same way that the guy who farts in the elevator is more offensive than the guy who does not. Containing our baser nature is the major portion of civility.
