Collins applauds executive order on waterways rule

By Howard B. Owens

Press release:

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) has released the following statement on President Trump’s executive action regarding the Obama administration’s Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule.

“President Trump is delivering on his promises to end the crippling regulations that have devastated Western New York’s farming communities,” Congressman Collins said. “The waters of the United States rule is a prime example of harmful federal government overreach. I applaud the Trump Administration’s decision to review this harmful rule and fully expect them to free our nation’s farmers from this onerous regulation once and for all.”

UPDATE: The word "overturn" has been removed from the headline because that word turns out to have been inaccurate. The executive order requires the EPA to review the rule.

I should note that at the time I wrote this headline, I didn't understand the E.O. and Collin's statement is unclear. All the E.O. actually does is require the EPA to review the rule. It doesn't overturn it. It doesn't change it.

I'm not sure, but, I think Collins might have been speaking about the following: from http://www.thebatavian.com/howard-b-owens/collins-norton-critical-of-ne…

“The Obama Administration's ruling today is a continuation of their regulatory assault on our nation's farmers," Congressman Collins said. "The EPA’s overreach is causing real harm for local farmers and stalling business development. When I visit with local farmers, the heavy burdens under the Clean Water Act come up each and every time. When the bureaucrats at the EPA decide to call a divot in the ground that fills with rain a ‘navigable waterway’ under the CWA, we know our federal government has run amuck. I will continue to do all I can to fight this burdensome and business crushing ruling."

Just a hunch!

smoke and mirrors as nothing is going to change...... people who are given authority that should not have it in the first place, get very offended when their authority and actions are brought into question. the epa and the dec will have to hire more people and do more studies only to come back and change nothing..
