Coffee Culture at Court and Ellicott streets in the City of Batavia has closed.

Workers are removing the signs at this moment.

We have a call into corporate headquarters to see if we can get more information.

I used to love Coffee Culture when they first opened. But haven't gone there in over a year, Everytime I would order a latte or other fancy drink, their machine was broken. Twice I got cold or lukewarm coffee and when I mentioned to the manager, I was ignored or just smiled at. Hard to run a coffee shop with no coffee...

There is still one local coffee shop on Harvester Ave. Not sure there is enough market for another local coffee shop. We had Main Street Coffee and the one that was in with Next Level Fitness, but it seems they could not generate enough profit to stay open..

That's too bad but, I'm not surprised. It's been a nice place for holding small company business-related gatherings and I've seen the telltale signs for this coming over the past couple of months.

Main Street Coffee -- the first "office space" of The Batavian. We camped out there every day or three or four months. Thanks, Rob Credi! #fondmemories

I saw something open up in Ithaca's coffeehouse area just before I moved here. I think it would be an ideal fit for downtown and increase traffic. It was a buffet of sorts. What you did is you would get small to medium containers like a wegmans self serve area. You would then purchase foods, vegetables even fruits by the pound, options were prepared stuff like pilafs, soups mac salads, or fresh loose like grapes, blueberries and broccoli crowns or cauliflower cut to bite sized pieces. During mealtimes you could find lasagna or spinach souffle, cassaroles, chili. even sometimes steak or ham steaks as well as standaard salad bar fare. Everything was per lb price and they were and according to my friends in Ithaca, still do very well. They had a smaller seating area than our Coffee Culture did and the surprise was alot of professionals from Cornell Business offices began to get stuff there as well. That was what ended up being a shock as the employees of Cornell's many businesses HATED going to Collegetown and mingling with students and only did so for the popular and established Resteraunts.

I think something like that, along with "more reasonable are realistic" coffee selecctions would thrive there or at least become an asset and location to come to in downtown. It would also be close to the Courthouse, City Hall and DMV so would be able to serve the professionals of Downtown as well.

Just a thought....

Oh just as an observation.....my wife who is a lifer here in Batavia HATED Collegetown when she would come out on weekends. But she did love this place. She could get a hot tea and buy a dollar of blueberries at a time nibble on them like candy while reading the paper or watching the news. (Or waiting for me to deal with last few hours of work on fridays or saturdays)
