Kurtis Dunlap, a 2012 graduate of Oakfield-Alabama High School and a journalism student at the University of Missouri's Reynolds School of Journalism, will cover the Batavia Muckdogs for The Batavian this season.

He'll cover home games and write occasional features about the team and its players.

Dunlap is studying sports journalism at Missouri.

He's the oldest of three siblings and in high school played football, basketball and baseball. For three seasons, he was a batboy for the Muckdogs.

"Someday I hope to have my own column in a newspaper where I can share all the crazy things that pop into my head," Dunlap said.

The 2015 season opens Friday.

Kurtis, did you know that Dock Ellis played his first professional game in Batavia and later went on to pitch a no hitter for the Pittsburgh Pirates while high on LSD? Did you know that Ricky Williams, a Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Texas, played baseball in Batavia during the off season? There are a whole bunch of other cool facts that have inspired me with renewed pride in my hometown and I would like a good writer, (you are one aren't you?) to write about stuff that makes me proud instead of despondent and looking for an easy exit from the bullshit of reality. Make me want a hot dog and a beer again, actually just make me want a hot dog, the beer thing has never been a problem for me. I like them all except regular Genesee in the ugly white can.
