Route 63 Diner aims to make you feel at home with good food and friendly service

Bonnie Ames saw the empty restaurant building on Ellicott Street Road near Shepard Road and knew it was the place for her.

"I saw the building was empty and when I walked in it reminded me of a place when I was very little, and I said, 'oh, my God, I've got to do it.' "

Ames, with daughter Amy Goodenow, has opened the Route 63 Diner in Batavia.

She said it's just a traditional diner with good American food.

She's undaunted by the fact four other restaurant owners have tried to make it at the same location in the past few years.

She said the reason she's optimistic is she's met a lot of wonderful people during her first four weeks in business and they all seem to appreciate a good home-cooked meal.

"They're wonderful," she said. "I feel that with the way they feel about the food, they are coming back. It's a great location. I think our attitude, and good food, is what's going to make it."

This place has no shot to make it! Tried it last night. We got the prime rib special and it was horrible. The sides of mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy were served in pre-prepared bowls and re-heated in the microwave! She re-made the gravy and put it back on the old un-eatable potatoes! The prime rib was oversalted and half of the piece was solid fat. They literally should be ashamed of themselves! On top of that, it was almost $20 a plate for this slop!!! Stay clear of this place, I surely won`t be back,

Jim,did they at least have a good attitude? I ask only because your comment suggests the exact opposite of the quote in the last paragraph of the story.

No, she wanted to crack jokes about serving the gravy with more cracks in it than her face or something like that. Believe me, they won`t even last as long as the rib place did and that wasn`t very long. They don`t really have much to offer on the menu. Not even a steak. If it wasn`t for the prime rib special, you could choose from fish, meatloaf, chicken fingers or burgers and hot dogs. That`s far from home-style cooking! All I can say is good luck if you attempt to eat there.

An for whoever the idiot is that gave me the thumbs down like always, go there and eat and tell me how you like it! I`m only trying to help people from blowing their money.
