Today's Poll: Do you support a $16 billion increase in military spending?

By Howard B. Owens

In a nearly 20 trillion dollar robust economy, 16 billion is like buying a meal for a family in need.

I say spend away! God Bless our Troops!

EDIT After 3 thumbs down.....

Was it the God Bless the Troops?

My question is, why more? The US already spends more on military than China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, UK, India, France and Japan do combined!! Cut down on the waste and the cronies who all have companies with military contracts. Bring home our troops from profit driven wars. Let's stop the war hawks in Congress from spending more money that we already don't have. Robust economy, my butt. Take a cruise through any northeast big city, or the rural south, or the ghost towns of the midwest, and see abject poverty. Opioids killing indiscriminately, while big pharma continues to profit. Our priorities are skewed, for sure.

The opioid crisis is fuelled by our flag draped military. They facilitate and protect the poppy industry in the world's largest producer of the crop! Our military is in effect being used against us. See:

Mr Nixon, your lack of understanding of the fragility of "faith based" paper backed economy seems matched by your hypocrisy in using the Lord's name in vain. God will bless our troops when they do his work. Killing people all over his creation at the whim of some pin head politicians is not God's work. Thanks Bud Prevost for being a vocal opponent to the murder and mayhem perpetrated in our names and with our coin.

That swamp sure doesn't seem to be draining, does it?

And Mike Nixon, how gracious of you to propose spending even more of other people's money. if you want more spending you are free to go ahead and donate more of your money any time you want.

Should activity military personnel get paid more? Of course.

Does the nuclear weapons infrastructure need an upgrade -- as long as we have nukes, they should be attached to top-notch delivery systems.

But you don't borrow even more money from the Chinese to do it (this is a big reason we have trade deficits -- we borrow more than we produce).

Close bases, get out of conflicts that are none of our business, reduce personnel, cut costs.
