Today's Poll: Should an organ donation agreement be opt-out at the time of driver's license renewal or application?

Organ donation is a very personal issue. It must be voluntary, transparent, and well thought out choice and not opt-out liberal social engineering legislation bordering on deceit and trickery. For the record, I have chosen to donate, and the current laws are fine.

Rich - I agreed with you up to the point you went right-wing batscat insane. I'm going to plagiarize the accurate parts of your post to express my thoughts on opt-out organ donations.

I'd like to see a separate form that you would have to sign each time before you could renew a license or get the first one. It would require you to pick in or out, with a notice you can change your mind at any time.

"liberal social engineering legislation bordering on deceit and trickery." Nonsense. Utterly ridiculous.

Opt-out is good common sense. Illinois has more than doubled organ donation over the national average with opt-out.

In Illinois, 68 percent of drivers are now potential organ donors. This number tells us two things. First, that opt-out is good for society; second, that it isn't trickery, that clearly enough people are informed and paying attention and still making the decision not to become a donor.

Conservatives concern themselves with fostering a good, stable society and promoting life and protecting families. Opt-out helps achieve these goals.

Opposing it is just another way of saying you want more people to live unhealthy lives or die needlessly.

Eric, it's not that don't want to be a donor. It just that most don't bother to really look at the form. They just want to get the license and get going. That's why I don't like the almost automatic opt in. I see nothing wrong with a separate form that clearly has a person say yes or no.
