Collins votes for Keystone pipeline

By Howard B. Owens

Statement from Rep. Chris Collins:

“Achieving energy independence is vital for our nation’s economic growth and national security,” Congressman Collins said. “For the past six years, the President’s Administration has hidden behind political motives to delay a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline. While the Obama Administration and Senate Democrats have delayed, the American people have missed out on the thousands of jobs and lower energy costs that would be created by approval of the pipeline.

“As November’s elections results prove, Americans want economic growth and jobs now, and House Republicans are taking a major step towards those goals. It is time for the President and Senate Democrats to put aside their punitive political agenda and harness our nation’s energy potential.”

"Achieving energy independence is vital for our nation’s economic growth and national security,” said Congressman Collins.

So, transport of Canadian product over sensitive areas in the heartland, to American gulf ports, where said product is placed for bid on the world market, achieves energy independence how?

Bunk.

So Collins is Cruz-like brilliant in declaring the Keystone will free the U.S. of dependency on foreign oil by IMPORTING OIL FROM CANADA (which is a foreign country, btw).

sigh

He lost me in the first three words of his press release. None of this petroleum comes to the United States. It only passes through the United States on its way to somewhere else. Is energy independence what he thought he was voting for? I'm not surprised that Mr. Collins would vote this way, but surely he must have someone on his staff who knows some facts? I guess maybe not.

....but come Monday, Howard can put up a poll asking if people support Collins vote on the Keystone Pipeline and we all know how that will come out. Just a guess 600 yes and 298 no. Never fails.

Back when Gas was high, the Domestic Oil Companies were just as high as anyone else. I was told Canada does not import any oil, yet their gasoline is more expensive than ours. I can travel to Pilot in Pembroke and pay 25-30 cents a gallon less than here in Batavia, a mere 10 miles away. AND THEY ARE MAKING MONEY !! So it would appear that our local stations here in town are ripping us off big time. Some one should investigate that. Will the pipeline fix that Mr. Collins?? The answer is NO. You, who are our representative ,should be trying to find out why the people of Batavia are being ripped off at the pump. Not approving this worthless pipeline.

Fred, the majority of cost in Canada is taxes on the gas sales. In addition to excise taxes, there are provincial and government taxes figured into the cost, making it more expensive than here in N.Y.

Good Points Fred. As a congressman, he should also be asking: If gasoline and diesel taxes are supposed to pay for roads and bridges, why is there no money for roads and bridges? Our state representatives should be asking the same question in Albany.
