GCEDC sets annual meeting for Friday at GCC

By Howard B. Owens

The Genesee County Economic Development Center will host its annual meeting at Genesee Community College at noon on Friday.

There will be a performance review for fiscal year 2010 and the strategic goals for 2011 will be discussed.

The public is welcome. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.

Assemblyman Steve Hawley and Sen. Mike Ranzenhofer will be in attendance along with Tom Kucharski, president and CEO of Buffalo Niagara Enterprise, Mark Peterson, president and CEO of Greater Rochester Enterprise, Mary Pat Hancock, chairwoman of the Genesee County Legislature, and Steve Hyde, president and CEO of GCEDC.

I remember C.M. saying something about another event that they obviously don't want working taxpayers attending given the timing, this sounds the same, 11:30 on a weekday morning?

Jeff,
I thought the same thing.
Maybe this is the event where we can show Batavian solidarity and get as many of us, who can, attend.
I'd suggest we all go together, but since this is the only subject we all seem to have agreement, we'd probably arrive at GCC dead.

Considering the hosts provided Steve Hawley and Mike Ranzenhofer for muscle in case any disgruntled taxpayers tried to tar and feather Hyde and his bonus-happy crew, it should have been safe to conduct the meeting anytime.

Bea, violence never solved anything, so I'm fairly certain we would all arrive safe and sound. I have a class at 11:15, but I am gonna skip out at ten to noon, as my professor knows this type of thing interests me. See you on Friday!

Good luck guys.

If I'm not mistaken, this is their annual dog and pony show luncheon in the forum at GCC where they hang a banner saying that Genesee county is the (insert number here)st ranking 'micropolitan' in the country and tell those assembled about all the great things they've done (which should be interesting).

I'm not sure, but I believe this is by invitation since they are serving lunch. I wonder if it's a FREE LUNCH?

WBTA included this information, which I neglected.

"Tickets can be obtained by calling 343-4866, and asking to speak with Penny."

I wish I could attend, but like most other working people in the county, I can't just up and leave my job to go to meetings.

You'd think that after all the scrutiny they've been under, the GCEDC would like a chance to explain themselves properly to the largest group of people possible.

How irronic that most in attendance will be also getting paid to be there . GCEDC needs to die , and we as a county need to recover our dignity and re-invest this money from saleries into the youth of this county .

Other than here and in a few other smaller news sites, where has the GCEDC been under scrutiny? The state passed some laws several years ago in an attempt to regulate IDAs and other agencies, but entities like the ABO and their reports have easily been ignored or brushed aside by local governments and the agencies themselves.

Why would the GCEDC care to explain themselves or even feel any pressure to do so?

Whoohooo. Tickets to hear them self congratulate are $15.00 each.
You'd think with the money they are raking in, they would gladly invite the public at no charge to their shingdig.
John, are you treating?

Just crash it Bea! The vast majority of attendees are on the public tab- bring your biggest shoulder bag and load it up! Scream bloody murder when they try to cart you away!

ala Corona? Wouldn't the distractors on this site have a field day with that one?
It isn't the $15.00, but the principle involved. They want ME to PAY them to hear them congratulate themselves.
I think not.

Bea, if you went through with CM’s suggestion I’d laugh my butt off. It would be such a subtle political statement. When they haul you away, be sure to yell, “Police brutality!” a few times …while you’re screaming bloody murder. ; )

That was a great idea, CM.

Yeah...I feel MUCH more comfortable now that I read the article in the Daily saying that they're "moving on".

The arrogance displayed by this bunch is unbelievable.
