Kathy Hochul will run for lieutenant governor

By Howard B. Owens

Genesee County's former congressional representative, Kathy Hochul, will be Gov. Andrew Cuomo's running mate in the upcoming gubernatorial race, reports the Buffalo News.

Cuomo needed to find a new lieutenant governor candidate after Rochester's Robert Duffy decided not to run for reelection.

Hochul won the local congressional seat in a special election after Chris Lee's resignation, then lost to current NY-27 representative Chris Collins in November 2012.

“I don’t want to want to be on the sidelines,” she said of her bid to re-join government service. “New York State is on the move, but our work is far from finished,” she added.

I am extremely disappointed that Kathy Hochul would partner with such a Constitutional violator as Andy Cuomo. Apparently Political Party allegiance is more important than ethics and even our Constitution. Kathy Hochul has accepted Cuomo's selection to be his Lt Gov running mate. Hochul was actually very friendly to the 2nd Amendment when she was Erie Co Exec, and even voted pro-gun while our US Congresswoman... What a flip-flop.

Don't sucker in for the fanfare that she is "a winner"... she couldn't even beat Chris Collins when she was the incumbent.

Cuomo is just playing to the upstate vote, which he IS NOT GOING TO GET... He really is Hated in upstate. The SAFE Act, Fracking, and Abortion will be his defeat.

Brian once again (shock face) we agree. I have a feeling that what Kathy has done is the equivalent of stopping the Titanic mid ocean to get on to get to NY.

Why would anyone get on a sinking ship...

I'm not quite sure what you mean by your Titanic metaphor? It looks as though Cuomo is in good shape. His biggest threat, it seems, is a possible third-party challenger from the *left* -- but even then, Cuomo has a solid lead. My husband and I have lived in several different parts of Western, NY and upstate NY. Most cities and towns (yes, even in upstate NY and in Western NY) are not nearly as conservative as this region.

The Hochul pick actually makes me more favorably inclined towards Cuomo, and I'm one of those folks who might have actually considered voting for a Working Families Party candidate to the left of Cuomo.

A smart political move on Cuomo's part to secure the Up State vote. I still will not vote for him in view of his remarks and his disregards of anybody who lives outside of New York City. I feel he has National ambitions. He is following the Obama playbook to appeal to the Liberal, low information, entitlement minded voter.

LOL If you need further explanation after the last sentence of my post Emma then I can't help you.

As for your opinion that Cuomo is in good shape, I guess we'll see as time rolls on. I'm feeling pretty secure that he hasn't a snowball's chance in hades. But then again thats my opinion and I could be wrong.

Anyone who supports a tyrant that talks like this is beyond liberal... more like dishonorable. Now that she has shown her true colors, that includes Kathy Hochul too I guess.

Cuomo said: “Who are they?” “Are they these extreme conservatives, who are right to life, pro-assault weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that is who they are and if they are extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York."
