Photo: Garbage can enclosure being built in School Street parking lot

By Howard B. Owens

Masons are making good progress on the new enclosure for commercial garbage cans in the parking lot off School Street, near Center.

The city used $20,000 from a state grant and the Business Improvement District put up $10,000 to construct the enclosure.

why do they have to hide the commercial garbage cans anyways? are they not part of city life? If it is a top priority to hide them then how about $1,000 worth of bushes instead of the 30 grand block box?

Seriously? Its a public parking lot and a centralized area to keep garbage. Isn't maintaining the lot important for city businesses to be competitive? Do you take no pride in the downtown area? Would a broken up lot full of garbage be better for the commercial district?

By the way NONE of those are real questions. I realize its in vogue to out conservative each other, but there is a roll for government and this is one of them.
