Anecdotally, here's a tip for hikers and campers. An easy and very affordable emergency fire starter can be made using a snack size bag of Fritos and some blue tipped matches. Store them in a small ziplock bag. When needed, gather any dry twigs and sticks as you may need then place several of the Fritos on the ground protected from the wind and light them with a match. Add the twigs and sticks to build your fire.

Fritos basically consist of; corn (fuel), oil (accelerant), and salt (flavor).
