Today's Poll: Should another Democrat run a primary challenge against Obama?

By Howard B. Owens

Maybe it's back to school time.
The question asked should the Demsocrats have a primary, not what Republicans should or should not do. Like Jeff, I didn't vote since I am not a Dem, but maybe we'll here from them.

That would be all well and good but, this idea is a plant from Republicans. Hillary is part of the Obama administration and any idea that she would run against Obama is laughable. It's also safe to say that a majority of those yes votes are from Republicans. They are the only people I know who talk about a Dem primary.

Make no mistake, Dems have their guy and can't wait to show up in mass to vote against Mr Pay for Play Perry.

Charlie I agree with you that the Dems have their man...Mitt. Alot of Dems and independents will turn on Obama just like they did in Governor and Congressional races.

Mark, crazy old Ralph Nader only wants to "pressure" Obama, not win... More like he wants his name in the paper.

You are living a pipe dream if you think Democrats are in anyway unhappy with Obama. The "crazy left" wants is the same thing the "crazy right" wants, a fight with little reguard for our country. The difference is main stream Democrats are going to ignore their nuts. The Republicans sign pledges to follow them off the cliff.

Plant? It is a poll question.
And the only ones I have heard say Obama should have a primary are upset far left Democrats that don't think he has stayed true to his base. And even then, not that many.
This is also common speculation every time you have a sitting president, especially since LBJ where a primary challnage took out a sitting president.

Jack, Dems fear Mitt. He's as normal as Republicans get these days and will pull votes from the middle. Not that it matters, Mitt isn't the right brand of Christian. (joke)

John, are you not keeping up on your national politics? This poll stems from Mr Rove and a question Bill Clinton laughed off yesterday. Far left Democrats LOVE Obama, they just want him to fight Republicans. Any mention of compromise makes the edges upset. You also know that the only way to stop a far left Dem from voting for Obama is by armed force. Elections are about the middle, the far edges vote for their guy and there is little doubt Obama is their guy.

You could turn this around and try to tell me that if nominated, Mitt wouldn't get far right votes because of his religion. That's a joke! Far right Republicans will stand in line all day to vote for Mitt in the general election.

John, you didn't pick up on the analogy, I was trying to make. It's clear to me that people on the left planted the question about Mitts religion to scare away Republican voters. Just as the right is playing games bringing up this primary question. Each side plays games to attempt to trip up the other side.

It's time that Republicans understand that Barak Obama is our President, elected by a majority of Americans, and that he has the full support of the Democratic party and its members, there will be no primary on the Democratice side and President Obama will have a billion dollar war chest going into the general election, his task is to convince a majority of independents in the middle that he will be a better choice to lead the country post 2012....if Rick Perry is the Republican nominee he will have to convince that same group of independents and moderates in the middle that he is a better choice....if Mitt Romney is the Republican nominee he will face the prospect of a third party candidate from the far right of the Republican Party and the odds are it will insure the re-election of President Obama.

In either case the odds of President Obama being re-elected are in his favor, which has the collective of Republicans skin crawling with anxiety.

Speaking of billion dollar war chests. How much is this next election predicted to cost? Anybody know? How about no campaigning and spend that money on roads and bridges. You could have the "re-Elect Barack" Route 20 and the Mitt Romney bridge, and the Michele Bachman overpass. Also the Ron Paul straight and narrow highway.

Bet that proposal in congress or the White House would go over like a fart in church.

Risk Perry will give a $3.99 bag of potato chips to anyone who swears on a bible that they will vote for him. Obama will shake your hand and give you some dip for your chips, because he is too damned civilized.

I think class warfare is going to fester like a huge pimple. Then it will pop without the need for bloodshed, unless I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong. Don't Risk Perry, you are smarter than that.

Charlie, this question came from another news site that asked it two weeks ago. I was really stuck for a question idea this morning, so I was looking at theindependent.com and found this poll question in their archives. I figured, what the heck, any mention of Obama gets people talking. The question is not a plant from Rove. And I have/had no idea of anything asked and answered by Bill Clinton yesterday. Sorry, but Carl Rove never communicated his orders to me.

Howard, thanks for asking the question. This site has, by far, the most civilized debate of the sites I read. I love how people here can disagree vehemently without name calling and insulting.

And yes, we have our man...Obama.

Charlie,
The first I can find about anyone talking about an Obama primary came from Howard Dean in Dec. 2010. Dean said it would be a bad idea, but until then how many people were even talking about it? Do you have Rove talking about before Dean?

No John, just normal everyday politics not worth more than just a laugh. Both sides love to come up with this stuff. If they can compliment one enemy to hurt another, that's funny.

The results of the poll and the comments speak for themselves. The thread started out with complaints that Republicans would be chiming in on the conversation and should worry about their own candidates when that is exactly what Democrats did on the Sept. 8th GOP poll. Then when given the opportunity, not ONE of the over 180 people who voted no attempted to defend President Obama's record or why he should not be primaried. If this is the guy who is best suited to lead this country the next 4 years, then please tell everyone why he should not be challenged. Not on the shortcomings of any potential challenger, but on HIS record and HIS merit....just the facts please, no talking points.
