Today's Poll: Should the Senate have voted to end tax breaks for big oil companies?

By Howard B. Owens

The oil company profits this year are the most in the history of the world. Yet they must receive corporate welfare? This at a time when the same people who voted for oil companies to continue to receive billions in taxpayer money are salivating over gutting Medicare, cutting PELL grants, cutting school lunch programs, cutting education, defund Planned Parenthood.......on and on. A vote for any of these people is a vote to cut your own throat.

So, with these poll results, what makes these politicians think that they are representing their constituents? They aren't even coming close, and they really don't care! They honestly believe that we are unable to correct this situation, and they are leaning heavily on their campaign contributions as well as the lobbyists money... They have spent over 34 million on lobbying this year, and spent 18 million on campaigns for these pols... They see it as a GREAT investment, as for that (approximately) 52 million dollars, they have an option on collecting 21 BILLION dollars....

NOW, we need to remember this at election time, and send the supporters of these oil companies to the unemployment line...

No one will remember at election time. That is the irony of this entire exercise. 70 years ago, or so, when the oil industry was getting underway, they received the subsidies to get them started. Now, we are subsidizing companies that will have another record breaking profit. In the meantime, the elderly (and their children - the next generation) are told that we are the cause of the deficit and we have to suffer so that those creating 'wealth' remain fat and happy.
It would be different if that 'wealth' was creating jobs, but we also know the trickle down didn't materialize.
