Today's Poll: Will bin Laden's death mean the end of Al Qaeda?

I think this marks the begining of Al Qaeda trying to get thier revenge now. Like the President said we have to be on the look out for attacks because Bin Laden's followers are p*ssed. To be honest it doesnt change a thing, they still hate us, still want to hurt us, this just give them an "excuse" to try and do something.

Let me ask this question....Why would we hunt down Bin Laden for 10 long years and then after we kill him bury his body at sea? I am not normally into conspiracy theories, but this sounds very suspicious to me! Wouldn't it make more since to keep his body for DNA purposes or to prove to nay-sayers like me that he is actually dead? Or maybe I am just being a jerk, I don't know!

Gary, they could have taken samples from the body for DNA purposes.

Further, while I have a twinge of concern for conspiracy theories, not having a burial spot dilutes the martyrdom aspect.

Also, from the Los Angeles Times story:

"Intelligence officials said they believed the death of Bin Laden was "the most significant achievement to date" in the war against Al Qaeda and that his death will put the organization on a "path to decline that will be difficult to reverse.""

The burial at sea is probably a good thing as Howard said to avoid the burial site attention, however, my problem is with the burial within 24 hours to respect the Islamic tradition. If Islam is a peaceful religion and adherents reject the actions of Bin Laden claiming that he does not represent true Islam, then why give him the Islamic burial honor? Shouldn't his actions have forfeited his right to a Muslim burial? The quick disposition of the body uneccessarily fuels the doubts.

On 106.5 they said DNA had already been taken from the body then put out to sea. I agree with both gary and jeff on this. Im not sure what to believe. I have my doubts. As for a burial site and not drawing attention i do understand that but regardless, the people who followed him literally worshipped him, i can see them putting up a shrine in his honor, body there or not so it doesnt really matter where the body ended up. The way i see it is killing is wrong to begin with, so you're breaking that rule, why should we respect his religion when he has no respect for anyone else? I think it is B.S.

I won’t be satisfied until I see an un-doctored long form death certificate from Pakistan. It better have a raised seal and it better not be in PDF form. Oh, and the presiding doctor better be alive so, that he can be interviewed by Fox News.

Al Quaeda is like a cancer. The US military has removed the one of the main tumors, however, the cells have already spread through out the body. We have to be alert and ready to stamp them out whereever and whenever they appear. They need to be hunted down and exterminated like vermin.

Osama Bin Laden is dead, that is a good thing and points to an effective change in policy after President Obama's election. We owe the men and women who tracked OBL down our thanks.

To the conspiracy theory nuts no amount of proof short of putting OBL's head in a jar for display will be satisfactory so get ready for the endless tripe about to gin up from the folks over at fixed news....it'll be conspiracy season 24/7. Maybe they can get Rush or Glenn to do the intro....

As it stands, there is a whirlwind of controversy and conspiracy theories swirling above Barack Obama head, all the result of the man’s narcissism.

Would it not have been better that the operation be carried out successfully and then celebrated in secret; mission accomplished. Barack could have written a book twenty years later, and for the present kept our would-be allies, the Pakistanis guessing, and the terrorists in disarray.

Narcissism after Narcissus, the pathologically self-absorbed young man of Greek myth who fell in love with his own reflection in a pool. The man Barack appeared on Oprah in self-promotion for god’s sake, his pool the television camera.
