Two-foot snake in back yard of home on Rose Road

By Howard B. Owens

Animal control has been dispatched to a home on Rose Road, Batavia, for a two-foot snake spotted in the back yard.

UPDATE 10:45 a.m.: The call has been turned over to the DEC. The animal control officer is back in service.

You have GOT to be kidding me!
A two foot snake?!? Fresh out of it's egg, I'd imagine! (Then again, it might have been a midget-monster snake with a history of killing and eating cats, dogs, and small children.)
Actually I saw a four foot snake this afternoon in my herb garden. I guess I should have called Animal Control and had that whole process cost us taxpayers a few hundred dollars instead! Silly me! ...and to think that I foolishly endangered my life by taking at this man-eater with a garden hoe!

Any poisonous snake in western NY will have a rattle. No need to kill the snakes if they don't "buzz". They keep the mouse and rat populations down.
