Ida J. Kotlik

 

Ida J. Kotlik of Amherst died July 23, 2010 at McAuley Residence Nursing Facility in Tonawanda, NY. Born in Perry, New York daughter of the late Anthony (Josephine Maggio) Caito. Mrs. Kotlik was a long time member of St. Anthony’s Church along with its Altar and Rosary Society. She was very involved in the Catholic Church for many years. Preceded in death by her first husband James Amatrano (1983), son Ronald Amatrano (1983), brothers Charles, Frederick, Ignatius and Joseph Caito, sister Josephine Battaglia. She is survived by her husband Bernard Kotlik of Amherst; brother Angelo (Rose) Caito of Erie, PA; two nephews Anthony (Jenny) Battaglia of FL and Alfred Battaglia of FL. Calling hours will be held on Sunday July 25, 2010 from 1 to 5 PM at the Funeral Home. Prayers will be recited 9:00 AM Monday July 26, 2010 at the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 AM at Ascension Parish-St. Anthony’s Church 122 Liberty St. Batavia, NY 14020. Mrs. Bernice E. Murray

Oakfield - Mrs. Bernice E. Murray, 93, of Oakfield, a retired cafeteria employee at Oakfield - Alabama Schools, died Friday, July 23, 2010at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mrs. Murray was born January 31, 1917 in Bethany, a daughter of the late Dean and Leola (Phillips) Stevens.
She was a member, for over 60 years, of the Oakfield - Alabama Baptist Church. She enjoyed crochet.
She is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth N. Murray.
Survivors include one son, Oren K. (Kathy) Murray of Byron; 5 grandchildren, Oren K. (Liz) Murray II of Singapore, Rochelle (Brian) Warner of Alexander, Devin Kenneth Murray of Byron, Mark (Lisa) Ellingham and Michael Ellingham; 4 great-grandchildren, Talon Murray, Shanya Murray, Kali Ellingham and Jason Ellingham; several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Keneta Ellingham and sister of the late Oren Stevens, Esther Dunn and Frances Waldron.

There are no prior calling hours.  Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakfield - Alabama Baptist Church, 2210 Judge Road, Oakfield, NY 14125. Private burial will be in Reed Cemetery in Oakfield. Arrangements were completed by H.E. ROSE (ROSIE) ZINNI

Novato, CA. Age 87, passed on to her Heavenly Father on Sunday July 18, 2010 at her home after a lengthy illness. 

A native Batavian she was the aunt and godmother to former Batavian, Barbara A. Nigro.

She was born on October 23, 1922 in Batavia to Joseph & Nicole Maria (Soccia) Zinni.

Dear sister of Matilda DiSantis, Mary Coppini, the late Nicholas, Rocco, Valentine Zinni and Lucy Nigro; sister-in-law of Nancy Zinni, Sam Nigro, Joan Zinni, the late Ernest & Angelo.

Rosie was an avid bingo player in the Genesee County area. Her early years were spent working at the late great "Red Top" hot dog stand in Batavia and she went on to 25 years of uninterrupted service at the Veterans Hospital as a dietary assistant, never once taking a sick day in her entire time of service to them. After retirement from the VA she retired to Cape Coral, FL and then headed West to California to be by her great niece Samantha Ustin Zane and her great-great grandnieces, Sierra, Lucia and Stella Rose (her namesake). They gave her great joy, much love and laughter during her last years. She also has a great-great niece namesake Nicolette Rose Ustin of Hamlin, NY daughter of her great nephew the late Christopher M. Ustin who she adored dearly. Her niece and godchild Maria Coppini Lauffer of Caledonia, NY was also exceptionally dear to Rose. She was always ready for a good laugh, card game or a night of Bingo, an avid reader, puzzle books kept her mind sharp to the last days of her life. MSN & CNN kept her keenly interested in US and World politics.

She is survived by her sisters Matilda DeSantis, Mary Coppini, several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews who all lovingly called her "Ro Ro".

Private services will be at a time set by the family. Arrangements were completed by the Daniel's Chapel of the Roses in Santa Rosa, CA. Memorials in her honor may be made to Crossroads House 11 Liberty Street Batavia, NY 14020 with the hope they can help her friends and family in future years.

VERONICA T. GUBALA

GUBALA V. T.0001.jpgVeronica T. Gubala, 93, of Tonawanda, formerly of Akron, died Monday (July 19, 2010) at Kenmore Mercy Hospital in Kenmore.

She was born in Depew on February 4, 1917 a daughter of the late Andrew and Aniela Krol Baj.

Mrs. Gubala worked at Bell Aircraft during W.W. II and also on the family farm.  She had a great love for her flower and vegetable gardens.

Her husband, Joseph Gubala died on October 28, 1981.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter in law: Frank and Joyce Gubala of Kenmore and John Gubala of Houston TX.  Four grandchildren: Shawn Gubala, Kimberly Gubala, Julie (Drew) Green and Jeffrey Gubala. A great granddaughter, Jocelyn Green.  A brother, Stephen Baj of Kenmore.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  She was the sister of the late: Joseph Baj who died in 1968.

Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 - 8 PM at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, 32 John St., Akron.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at  9:30 AM at St. Teresa of Avila RC Church in Akron. (please assemble at church)

Burial will be in St. Teresa of Avila Cemetery.

PHYLLIS PARZYCH

Phyllis, Parzych, 79, of Akron, died Monday (July 19, 2010) at Tennyson Court  Senior Care Community in Williamsville.

She was born in Akron on January 24, 1931 a daughter of the late Jesse and Elsie Murray Netzley.

Her husband, Joseph R. Parzych, died on December 5, 2004.

Mrs. Parzych is survived by a daughter, Martha Parzych Short of Akron.  Three sons and daughters in law: Joseph J. and Kathleen Parzych of Akron, David and Holly Parzych of Akron and Dan and Laurel Parzych of Pembroke.  Six grandchildren: Joseph R. (Alison) Parzych III, James (Kelly) Parzych, Kevin Parzych, Gregory Parzych and Trevor and Alec Short.  Two great grandchildren: Jillian and Alexander Parzych.

She was the sister of the late: Donald, Geneva and Lowell Parzych.

Family and friends may call Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM at the  J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, 32 John St., Akron.   A graveside service will be Friday at 9:00 AM at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Bloomingdale Rd., Akron.

Linda Lee Chapell

Linda Lee Chapell age  61 of Batavia died July 20, 2010 at Unitedchapell1.jpg Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Born January 28, 1949 in Batavia, New York daughter of the late Erwin W. (E. Muriel Jenkins) Chapell. 

Linda was an employee of Genesee ARC Workshop in Batavia. She was a member of City Church where she was very active.

Linda enjoyed doing ceramics. She was lovingly cared for by the Staff of ARC and her group home. She was the recipient of the 2010 Western Region Self Advocate of the Year at the Self Advocacy Conference. 

Preceded in death by a brother Erwin Chapell, a sister Nancy Dersam and two brothers in law Oscar Kessler and Richard Moore Sr.

She is survived by one brother Roger (Carol) Kirkpatrick of Chili, NY, 4 sisters Jeanette Moore of Batavia, Carolyn (Dayton) Schultz of Oakfield, Judy Chapell and Norma Kessler both of Batavia. Many beloved nieces and nephews also survive along with her very dear friends Patti, Michelle, Donna and Jeanette.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday July 22, 2010 from 4 to 8 PM at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba.

Curt (R. Curtis) Haight

Batavia - Mr. Curt (R. Curtis) Haight, 49, of Batavia, truck driver for American Paving & Excavating in Clarence Center, died Sunday, July 18, 2010at his home in Batavia under the care of HomeCare & Hospice.

Mr. Haight was born September 10, 1960 in Medina, the son of Gerald Haight of Penn Yan and the late Donna Brege Pieniaszek.

A 1978 graduate of Dundee High School, Curt was a member of the former St. Nicholas Club in Batavia. A member of the United States Bowling Congress, he was an avid bowler. He enjoyed playing golf, watching sports on television, especially the IRL series and attended the Indianapolis 500 annually. Curt enjoyed camping and the outdoors and being with his family and friends.

Curt was a dedicated employee at Oatka Milk Products in Batavia and for IJR Industries prior to working at American Paving & Excavating.

Surviving along with his father are his wife, Patrice Macheda Haight whom he married October 4, 2003; three sisters, Sherri (Tim) Allen of Elba, Shelly (Keith) Weaver of Franklin, Pa. and Sandra (Donn) Denniston of Baldwinsville; his step-father, Stanley Pieniaszek, Jr. of Albion; a step-brother, Michael (Deanna) Pieniaszek of Albion; a step-sister, Jill Anderson of Tx.; a brother-in-law, Raymond (Becky) Macheda of Delaware, Ohio, a sister-in-law, Lynne Parry of BelAir, Md.; his father-in-law, Vincent Macheda of Batavia; several nieces and nephews that he loved to dote on and many cousins.

Curt was predeceased by his nephew, D.J. Schmackpfeffer, his niece, Heather Marie Allen, his brother-in-law, Mark Parry and his mother-in-law, Audrey Macheda.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, 8221 Lewiston Road, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesee Cancer Assistance, 16 Bank Street, Batavia, New York 14020 or to the family. Condolences may be made at www.bataviafuneralhomes.com.

 

Lois A. Geer

Lois A. Geer, 73 of Alexander, NY died July 17, 2010 at her homegeer.jpg under the loving care of her family and Hospice. 

Born October 15, 1936 in Batavia, NY daughter of Lawson J. Pontius of Batavia and the late Emma (Netzen) Pontius. 

Mrs. Geer was a secretary at Alexander School for 22 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Alexander United Methodist Church where she was very active, sang in the Choir and was the membership secretary. She was a member of the Happy Agers and their trip coordinator, Meals on Wheels, Senior Citizen Advisory Council, the Alexander Tonawanda Valley Grange and past member of the Alexander Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Lois loved to cook and bake, travel and entertain.

Preceded in death by a brother in law Gary Bauer. She is survived by her husband of 53 years Norris L. Geer of Alexander whom she married on September 8, 1956. Three daughters Deborah (Tracy) Stokes of Batavia, Brenda (David) Luksch of Boulder, CO; Valerie (Scott) Letourneau of Newfield, NY. One sister Sally Bauer of Ontario, NY, 7 grandchildren Christopher (Lauren) Stokes, Emily Stokes, Laura Stokes, Benjamin Luksch, Jessica Luksch, Lilly Letourneau and Wesley Letourneau  who survive along with several nieces and nephews. 

Friends may call from 1-3 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday July 20th at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM on Wednesday July 21st at the Alexander United Methodist Church, 10540 Main Road, Alexander, New York 14005. 

Burial in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Alexander, New York. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alexander United Methodist Church, 10540 Main Road, Alexander, NY 14005 or to HomeCare and Hospice 550 E. Main St. Batavia, NY 14020.

JUSTINE E. CONWAY MOSCICKI

scan0001.jpgJustine E. Conway Moscicki, 86, of Batavia-Stafford Townline Road, died Thursday (July 15, 2010) at Highland Hospital in Rochester after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Linden, NY on October 3, 1923 a daughter of the late John and Olah Belle Schenck Conway.

Mrs. Moscicki graduated from St. Joseph School in 1939 and from Batavia High School in 1942.  She was a former employee of the former F. W. Woolworth in Batavia and was a life member of St. Joseph's Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.  She most enjoyed cleaning St. Joseph's Church and worked on the parish lawn fete for forty years.  She enjoyed gardening and watching drum corps performances.

Her husband Stanley died on March 25, 1993 and her son Gregory died on September 1, 1999.

Surviving are three sons and daughters in law:  Ronald and Vicki Moscicki of Batavia, Daniel and Linda Moscicki of Rochester and David and Brenda Moscicki of Corfu.  A daughter and son in law, Kim and David Casilio of Rochester.  A daughter in law, Joanne Moscicki of E. Bethany.  Ten grandchildren: Mark (Donna) Moscicki, Kevin Moscicki, Jeniffer Moscicki, Sara Moscicki, Michelle (Justin) Mager, Ronald Moscicki Jr., Jill (Scott) Foulis, Amanda Moscicki, Karen Casilio and Justin Casilio.  Five great grandchildren: Ayana, Chelsea, Evan, Colin and Riley.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was the sister of the late: Vincent Conway, Eleanor Link and Dorothy Betters.

Family and friends may call Sunday from 1 to 5 PM at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia, where prayers will be Monday at 8:45 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph Site). Burial will follow in Grand View Cemetery.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Resurrection Parish or to a charity of the donor's preference.

Donald F. Klein

Donald F. Klein, 84 of Batavia died July 16, 2010 at New York Stateklein.jpg Veteran’s Home in Batavia.

Born June 13, 1926 in Batavia, New York son of the late John (Margaret Winling) Klein. 

Mr. Klein was retired from the City of Batavia where he was a fireman; he also worked for 38 years at Falcone Electric in Batavia. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and a long time member of Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s). 

Preceded in death by brothers Joseph, Edward, Cornelius and Paul Klein, and sisters Cecilia Zackey, Eileen Amedick, Margaret Radice, Henrietta Imbrecht and Regina Redivivo. 

Survived by his wife of 63 years Celia DiLaura Klein of Batavia, whom he married on June 7, 1947, two sons John Klein of Batavia and Donald (Joellen) Klein of Chicago, IL; one daughter Margaret (James) Brady of Henrietta, NY. One brother Henry R. (Bernice) Klein of East Pembroke, two sisters Helen Zorn, Veronica (Richard) Miller of Oakfield who survive along with 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Monday July 19, 2010 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Prayers will be recited on Tuesday July 20, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Resurrection Parish – St. Mary’s site, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia, New York. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Batavia, New York.
