Mrs. Marie E. Raines

Batavia - Mrs. Marie E. Raines, 82, a retired physical education teacher at both John Kennedy Elementary School and the Batavia Middle School, died Friday, June 25, 2010at the United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Raines was born December 5, 1927 in Boston, New York, the daughter of the late Carl and Hatti Petrie Emerling.

She attended SUNY Brockport and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 1949. While at Brockport she met her husband, George and they married on August 27, 1949.

A longtime member of Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, Mrs. Raines was a member of the Sodality and a sacristan of the church. She and her husband were former members of Stafford Country Club for many years.

Along with her husband, she is survived by one son, Timothy Raines of Marietta, Georgia; one daughter, Maureen (Sal) Palatiere of Spring, Texas; one sister, Marcia Santoro of Bayside, New York and two grandchildren, Benjamin and Allsion Palatiere. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. 

She was the sister of the late Jerome, Harold, Robert and Maurice Emerling.

Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H. E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 2113 Chile Ave., Rochester, New York 14624. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Boston, New York. Condolences may be made at www.bataviafuneralhomes.com.
