MICHAEL A. FELDMAN

Age 52, of Batavia, died peacefully Sunday February 3, 2013 at his home, with his family by his side. He was born June 13, 1960 in Batavia, a son, of Catherine “Katie” (Thompson) Feldman of Batavia and was preceded in death by a sister Kimberly Nemechek.

Michael and his wife enjoyed being out in the community and meeting people on their daily walks, especially trips to the farmer’s market. He will be remembered as a loving man who never let his disability keep him down, and was a true inspiration to everyone he met.

Surviving along with his mother, his wife of over 28 years, Ronna (Shapiro) Feldman of Batavia; brothers, Jamo (Stephanie) Feldman of Batavia, Raymond (Lori) Feldman of Corfu and sister, Kandy (Rob) Zajaczkowski of Batavia along with many well loved nieces & nephews.

  Funeral services will be held privately by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Michael’s memory are suggested to Wyoming County SPCA or the Salvation Army and for more information please call Michael at (585)343-7500.

Madelyn T. Koester

Madelyn T. Koester, 84, of Batavia, died Friday (Feburary 1, 2013) at her residence.

She was born in Batavia on May 28, 1928, a daughter of the late Dr. Carl and Marie Knoll Koester.

She was a graduate of RIT in Rochester and had worked in the graphic printing business in the Batavia area.  Madelyn was a member of Resurrection Parish and its Ladies Sodality where she was very involved in her younger years.

Surviving are her dear friends, James and Deborah Rosenbeck of Batavia and their sons Michael and Stephen Rosenbeck.

Friends of Madelyn Koester are cordially invited to share their thoughts, condolences and fond memories on Sunday from 1 to 2pm at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA.

A mass of christian burial will be Monday at 9:30am at Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph Church).

Catherine Sweet

Catherine M. Sweet, 57, of East Pembroke died Friday (January 18, 2013).

She was born in Batavia on September 17, 1955 a daughter of the late Edward and Wanda Kosieracki Gorski.

Mrs. Sweet was retired from Genesee County Nursing Home.

Surviving is her husband, Kenneth P. Sweet.  Loving children; Jason D. McMullen of Indian Hills, CO and Shelly J. (James) Ewert of Batavia.  Cherished grandchildren; Zachary and Reyna Ewert.  Dear sister of; Linda (Richard) Staba of Batavia, Randy (Barbara) Gorski of Batavia and Jeffery (Ann) Gorski of Alden.  Aunts; Eleanor Ciesla of Buffalo and Gertrude (late Henry) Gorski of Batavia.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

CARL SIDNEY PFEIFER

Age 81, of Elba and formerly of Cedarville, NY entered into eternal rest on Sunday January 27, 2013 at his home, with his family by his side. He was born January 14, 1932 in Cherryville, NC, a son, of the late Carl and Katherine (Beam) Pfeifer, also preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Ruth Anna LaBumbard in 1998, infant daughter, Sally Jane and brothers, David, Robert and Howard.

     Carl graduated in 1951 from Ilion High School and served honorably in the United States Navy. He was a retired truck driver, an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and harvesting wild fruits and berries. Carl was most pleased when in the presence of his large family.

     Surviving is his current wife, whom in married July 15, 2000, Sandra (Metz) Shultz-Pfeifer of Elba; loving daughters; Joya Lee of Frankfort, Corrina “Renie” Pfeifer of Waterville, Shelby (Vincent) Borello of TN, Katherine (Anthony Sottosanti) Pfeifer of OH and Billie (Joseph) Aiello of Herkimer; step-sons, Jeffery (Lisa) Shultz of East Pembroke and Edward (Charleen) Shultz of Elba; brother, Jack (Lisa) Pfeifer of FL;16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren along with many well loved nieces & nephews.

Adeline S. Raykowski

Adeline S. Raykowski, 88, of Akron, died peacefully on Monday (January 28, 2013) at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. 

She was born in Lancaster, NY on April 17, 1924, daughter of the late Walter and Mary Ciesla Dylag.

She was a former waitress at the Park Country Club, working along with two of her sisters until her retirement. Adeline enjoyed crocheting and gardening around her home, where she was known for her beautiful red roses.  She was also a parishioner of St. Teresa’s Church in Akron.

She was the wife of the late Henry A. Raykowski who died in 1996 and mother of the late Michael Raykowski who died in 1998.

Survivors include a son, Richard Raykowski of Akron.  Sister, Stella (late Julian) Balicki of Lackawanna. Brother, Henry (Hilda) Dylag of Corfu.  Four grandchildren, Heather Lee, Marissa Raykowski and Brittany (Chris Hockenberry) Raykowski. Two great-grandhcildren, Connor and Aubreyanna.  Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Adeline was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Lorraine W. Didget

 

Liverpool/Batavia - Lorraine W. Didget, 91, of Liverpool, formerly of Batavia, passed away Saturday, (January 26, 2013) at home, in Liverpool.

Mrs. Didget was born August 24, 1921 in Bennington, a daughter of the late William and Sophia (Herbst) Wendler.

She was a graduate of Attica High School and Chown’s Business School in Buffalo.  Mrs. Didget retired after 15 years as Confidential Secretary for the Genesee County District Attorney and served 8 of the 15 years as Grand Jury Stenographer.  Before her marriage she was the Secretary to the District Director of the New York State Health Department, Batavia Office for several years. 

She was a member of the Ingraham Class of the church, United Methodist Women; member and former secretary of the Genesee Genealogical Society of Batavia; very active for many years in the 1st United Methodist Church, Miriam Circle; Genesee Memorial Hospital League and was a former member of the Genesee Zonta Club.

She is the wife of the late Richard D. Didget, who died May 6, 2010.

Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Cheryl A. (Mark) McLaughlin of Gainesville, FL and Laurel B. Didget of Liverpool; a grandson, Nathan McLaughlin; her nieces, Joan Wood, Margaret Meisner, Janet Meinweiser; nephews, William and Harold Meisner.  Several great-nieces and nephews also survive.

She is the sister of the late Bernice Meisner and Clifford Wendler.

Dora E. Shanks

Dora E. Shanks, 94 of Batavia, died January 24, 2013 at The Villages of Orleans in Albion. She was born April 19, 1918 in New York, NY to the late Harry (Ada Westcott) Connell. She was a long time legal secretary for the law firm of Dewey, Ballentine, Bushby and Smith. She was Secretary to the former Govenor Dewey of New York. She also volunteered at the CYO on Staten Island New York and was a volunteer at the Community Services Offices on Staten Island. She is preceded in death by her husband Edwin Shanks.

She is survived by her son Andrew Mistler, her grandsons Andrew, Michael and Kenneth Mistler, her great grandchildren Caleigh, Andrew, and Kaitlyn Mistler and her best friend and loving daughter-in-law, Joanne Mistler.

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Services will be held privately.

JOHN H. "JACK" FEE

Batavia - Mr. John H. Fee, 85, of Batavia, salesman for Kraft Foods in Rochester for 35 years, passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Fee was born November 18, 1927 in Buffalo, a son of the late Frank and Ruth Beecher Fee.

A member of St. Joseph's Church, Mr. Fee was a former member of the Batavia Lions Club and St. Nicholas Club, member of VFW Post No. 1602, the American Legion Post No. 332, Polish Falcons Nest No. 492 and the Moose Club in East Mesa, Arizona where he and his wife wintered for many years. He served with the United States Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia L. Scott Fee; three sons, Michael (Delores) Fee and David (Pam) Fee of Greece and Gregory Fee of Mesa, Arizona;  two daughters, Kathy Smith of California and Colleen (Bill) Wassink of Batavia; two brothers, Thomas (Doris) Fee of Portland, Maine and David (Mary) Fee of LeRoy; a sister, Betty (Gilbert) Warner of Florida; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is the brother of the late Patricia Yasses, Sandra Costanza and Geraldine Chamberlain.

There are no prior visiting hours. Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Private burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia. BRUCE J. BAUBE

Age 55, of Batavia, died on Thursday November 22, 2012 after a lengthy battle with various illnesses. He was born February 3, 1957 in Batavia, a son of the late Clark and Hilda (Wallman) Baube.     

     Bruce was retired from the US Gypsum Co. after 25 years of service. Despite his illnesses, he fought like a champ every step of the way and never let his disabilities keep him down, a true inspiration to everyone he met. After his retirement from USG, Bruce followed his love of dogs and assisted in the rescue of hundreds of them from the South, his story was featured in the Batavia Daily News. He would walk his dog faithfully and along the way met a great friend who joined them on their outings. He also returned to the LVG, where he had been for rehab, after a 22 month stay in the hospital to play cards with “the ladies” weekly over the next four years. He was an avid fan of drag racing, Grateful Dead, Buffalo Bills and Sabres. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, which lead him to a life membership at Godfrey’s Pond. He will be remembered as a humble man, never wanting to accept the credit he deserved and for making the most of everything he had accomplished.

     Surviving is a brother, Dale of the Philippines; his dear friend and caregiver for many years, Carrie Blaszak of Elba along with several nieces and cousins.

     Family and friends are invited to share and reminisce the great life of Bruce at a Celebration of Life gathering on what would be his 56th birthday, 1PM Sunday February 3, 2013 at the Godfrey’s Pond Clubhouse.  Memorials are suggested to the Genesee County Fish & Game Protective Association c/o Carrie Blaszak 7232 Transit Road Elba, New York 14058. Dorothy Edith Corttis Cox

Dorothy was born in Worcester, MA to Edgar Herbert Corttis and Florence “Edith” Brown Corttis and spent her childhood on the family “farm” in North Grosvenordale, CT. She attended Tourtellotte High School and graduated from Syracuse University in December 1945. She obtained a Masters in Education from the University of Vermont and highly valued education.

Dorothy began her teaching career at the age of 20 and was a beloved math teacher, most recently at Wyoming Central School from 1959 to 1986 where she taught math classes from 7th grade to 12th grade. She was very involved in school activities, acting as class advisor for many senior class trips to Florida and Washington, DC. Dorothy was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Delta Kappa Gamma, Ancient and Honorable Artillery Unit, the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century, National Society of the Daughters of the American Colonists, the Early American Witches’ Society, the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a 50 year member of the Grange. She was also active in Beta Gamma teacher’s association, Alpha Delta Gamma Educational Foundation and the New York State Retired Teachers’ Association, as well as the NAHDS genealogy society. She was a member of the Brick Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and was a Presbyterian enabler.
She married her sweetheart, W. Kenneth Cox, on November 10. 1958. Mr. Cox preceded her in death (1988) along with sisters Elizabeth, Christine, Lucy, Alice, Ruth; brothers Herbert, Harold and two infant brothers. The family thanks her caregiver, Lisa Tallman, for her loving care of Dorothy.

She is survived by her daughters, Janice Palumbos (Alan) of Salt Lake City, UT and Debbie Blanc (Brett Pendergast) of Fairport, NY and Brazilian daughter, Lilian Hashimoto Okada and a son, Steven (Connie) Pullen of Batavia, NY. 4 step-daughters, Mary Law, Sally Johnston, Renie Gorsuch and Judy Conn, 10 grandchildren Mackenzie (Daniel) McKendrick, Zachary, Sierra and Andrew Palumbos; Adam and Morgan Blanc; Sandra (Terry) Rawleigh, James, William and Lucy Pullen. 2 great-grandchildren, Madelynn and Alexander Rawleigh, along with several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Sunday January 27th from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 N. Main St. Perry. Funeral services will be held on Monday January 28th at 11 am at the Brick Presbyterian Church in Perry. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Perry.
