Batavia ~ Robert F. Cripps, age 75, of State Street, passed away Sunday afternoon (Sept. 15, 2013) at United Memorial Medical Center.

    Mr. Cripps was born Sept. 6, 1938 in Caledonia, a son of the late John and Minnie Stefani Cripps.

     He was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served tours in both Korea and Vietnam.  He then worked as a trucking dispatcher up until his retirement.  He was a Buffalo Bills and an Elvis fan and he thoroughly enjoyed having conversations with his family and friends.

     He is survived by his wife, Barbara Favaro Cripps, his children; Robert (Heidi) Cripps of Canandaigua, Amber Marie Cripps of Richmond, VA, Jennifer Cripps of LeRoy and Heather (Richard) McClure of Albion; grandchildren, Trevor Cripps and Paityn Cooper; his siblings, John (Barbara) Cripps of NYC, Marion Roth of LeRoy, Ernest Cripps of Caledonia and Beatrice (Bill) Radley of Stafford, along with many nieces and nephews.

     Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 5 ~ 8 PM at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc, 8700 Lake Road (Rt 19), LeRoy.  Rite of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 9:30 AM at Resurrection Parish (St. Joseph's Church), Batavia, with entombment to  follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 193, 53 Main Street, LeRoy, N.Y. 14482

Esther R. Cianfrini, 93 of Batavia formerly of Oakfield, passed away on September 14, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born October 2, 1919 in Batavia to the late Guy (Lola Acanfora) Chiarolanza. Mrs. Cianfrini was retired from the Oakfield Alabama School System where she worked in food service for 23 years. She was a former member of St. Padre Pio Parish. She is preceded in death by her husband Ezio J. Cianfrini in 1997, a daughter Mary Ann Bermingham in 1992, a great grandson Andrew John Cianfrini in 2009, Brother Frank Chiarolanza, and Sisters Josephine Ficarella, Frances Seamans, Mary DiSanto, Margaret Pascucci; brother-in-law Paul Cianfrini.

Esther is survived by her son John (Jean) Cianfrini of Batavia, son in law John (Barb) Bermingham of Rochester, 4 grandchildren Terry (Ken) Todd of California, Debbie (Owen) Guile of Pavilion, Pamela Vernaccini of Michigan and Kristen Cianfrini of Batavia.   5 Great Grandchildren also survive along with sisters in law Cecelia Zito, Catherine Cianfrini both of Batavia, Anna Czekanski of Ford City, PA.

Loretta A. Sobon, 93 of Batavia died Friday (September 13, 2013) at the New York State Veterans Home.

She was born in Machias, NY on December 27, 1919, a daughter of the late Conrad and Emma Rossmann Allenbrandt.

She was the widow of the late Stephen Sobon who died on December 24, 1978.

For many years she was a clerk cashier at the Market Basket Grocery Store in LeRoy.  She volunteered at the V.A. Hospital for over 28 years and enjoyed soft music, knitting crocheting.  With her talent as a fine seamstress she also made her own clothing.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia for many years.

Surviving is her brother, Albert (Elizabeth) Allenbrandt of Piffard, NY her sister, Anna Dye of Franklinville, NY Anna Mae Allenbrandt of Caledonia, NY.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30 to 11am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Ave., Batavia, NY 14020 where services will follow.  Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Machias.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the church.

Corfu - Eleanor W.. Klotzbach, 91, of Indian Falls, passed away Friday (September 6, 2013) at United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia.

Mrs. Klotzbach was born August 23, 1922 in Ray, NY, a daughter of M. Merlyn and Grace (Hickox) Woodruff.

She was a graduate of Alexander Central School and SUNY at Morrisville.  After graduation from college she became a school dietician at Holland Patent, NY and later managed a cafeteria at Doehler-Jarvis in Batavia during WWII.  Following her marriage, she became a mother, homemaker and packed eggs for neighboring farms for many years.

Her interests included reading, sewing, gardening, food preservation, birding and a love of her family and friends.  Most of all, she wished for all persons she encountered to know the Love, Grace and "the Peace that passes all understanding" which Jesus Christ offers to Mankind. The World was Eleanor's Mission-field!

In the community, she was very active in the Indian Falls United Methodist Church as a junior and senior choir director; a leader at the local and district level of the United Methodist Women; Missions chairman and treasurer; Sunday school teacher and Release Time instructor in addition to being a member of the Friendship SS Class. She actively supported the Gideons International and Wycliffe Bible Translators. Her multiple talents were shared with several organizations including Home Bureau, Farm Bureau and the Dairyman's League as well as assuming a leadership role with 4-H. For many years she loved exhibiting at the Genesee County Fair.

Eleanor is survived by her four children, Kathy (Richard) Craig of Indian Falls, Peter (Carole) Klotzbach of Buffalo, R. Thomas (Mary) Klotzbach of Livermore, CA and Joy (Randy) Yousey of Basom; 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. A sister, Harriet Miller also survives, along with many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Roy Klotzbach, sister Marge Lawrence, brother Donald Woodruff, grandson Matthew Klotzbach and many in-laws.

Friends may call  from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m  Wednesday at the Indian Falls United Methodist Church, 7908 Allegheny Road, Corfu, NY 14036. The funeral service will be held at the church, Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Indian Falls Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Indian Falls United Methodist Church or to the family to be distributed to Gideons International or Wycliffe Bible Translators. Arrangements are being made by C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc. 4 East Main Street, Corfu, NY.

LeRoy ~ Barbara Jane (Canfield) Ellingham, age 59, of South Street Road, passed away late Friday afternoon (Sept. 6, 2013) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

     Mrs. Ellingham was born October 16, 1953 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Gordon Canfield and Mary Lois Caruthers Canfield.

     She shared her love of reading with her many students at the Pavilion Central School, where she was a wonderful and devoted elementary teacher up until her retirement.  She was also known to be quite the “quilter”, making many lovely quilts for her family and friends. 

     She is survived by her mother, Mary Lois “Mike”  Canfield of FL, her son, Kenneth (Donna) Ellingham of LeRoy, her daughter, Crystal Ellingham (Brandon Smith) of LeRoy, grandchildren; Breanna, Kenneth Jr. and Mikayla, her sisters, Donna (William) Friedman of LeRoy and Susan (Glen) LaVallee of Baldwinsville, her brother, Rick Canfield of Batavia, an aunt, Jane Gillette of LeRoy, an uncle, Joseph Crnkovich of LeRoy, her dear friends of the “Wrapper Group”, along with many nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Shawn P. Wolcott, Jr., 10, of Batavia, passed away Thursday, (September 5, 2013) at Women's & Children's Hospital, in Buffalo, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Shawn was born August 6, 2003 in Buffalo, a son of Shawn Wolcott, Sr. and Adeelah Anda (Makeen Ithna-Asheri) Wolcott, both of Batavia.

Shawn attended elementary school at John Kennedy and was looking forward to entering 5th grade.  He was a very special boy who touched the heart of everyone he met.  He was extremely loving, intelligent, and inquisitive.  He especially loved the Ghostbusters, origami, and his bike.  Shawn will be remembered by all who knew him as a very sensitive, caring, loving person.

Surviving along with his parents is his brother, Iben Makeen Ithna-Asheri of Batavia; Paternal grandmother, Mildred Wolcott of Batavia; Maternal Grandmother, Terry Youngs of Castile; Maternal grandfather, Jay Warner of AK; along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Shawn is preceded in death by his Paternal grandfather John H. Wolcott who passed away in 2005 and his paternal great-grandparents Clair and Shirley Folmar.

Mr. Clarence L. Torrey, 93, of Bethany, died Friday (September 6, 2013) at home.

Mr. Torrey was born February 7, 1920 in Stafford, the son of the late Lee and Nellie (Noble) Torrey.

A veteran with the United States Army, he served from 1942 to 1945.  He was a machinist at LeRoy Machine in LeRoy and enjoyed riding his bike, playing cards and gardening.

Survivors include four children, James C. Torrey of Stafford, Patricia A. (George) Harrison of Stafford, Louise J. Korpar of Henrietta and Robert (Deborah) Torrey of Batavia; fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

His wife of 54 years, Edna Viola (Schramm) Torrey, died in 2000. He is the brother of the late Ruth Sanders and Elsie Schramm.  

Calling hours are Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 6188 Route 5, Stafford.  Burial with full Military Honors will be in East Bethany Cemetery, Bethany.

Corfu - Joan M. Koch, 83, of Corfu, passed away Wednesday (September 4, 2013) at the Genesee County Nursing Home, Batavia.
 
Mrs. Koch was born June 30, 1930, in Buffalo, a daughter of the late Clarence and Mae Linder Moore. She was a member of the Corfu United Presbyterian Church and a past member of the East Pembroke Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Koch was dedicated to all the children she transported as a bus driver for many years, first for the Pembroke Central School District and then for the ARC in Batavia. Some of her favorite pastimes were ceramics, knitting, crocheting and having coffee with "The Girls". Joan's beloved husband of 59 years, Norman C. Koch, passed away December 30, 2008. She will be deeply  missed by all who knew and loved her.
 
Survivors include her dear children, Alan Koch of Batavia, David Koch of West Batavia, Randy (Micky) Koch of Myrtle Beach, SC and Debbie Stocking of Corfu; seven cherished grandchildren and five precious great grandchildren; a sister, Sharon Kawecki of Bradenton, FL and many nieces and nephews.
 
Family and friends may call Friday 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4 East Main Street, Corfu. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Corfu United Presbyterian Church, 63 Allegheny Street, Corfu. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, East Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Volunteers for Animals.

 

Frank C. Warriner III, 63 of Elba passed away on Wednesday September 4, 2013 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He was born on November 19, 1949 in Buffalo to the late Frank C. (Lorraine M. Jordan) Warriner Jr. Frank was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish in Elba and was a Eucharistic Minister. He drove truck for the Keebler Company in Oakfield .  Frank loved horses and was a member of both the US Trotting Association and the Western New York Harness Horseman’s Association. He is preceded in death by a brother Mark Warriner and a sister-in-law Diane Warriner.  

Frank is survived by his beloved wife Georgia L. (Pahuta) Warriner of Elba; son Frank W. (Tina) of Byron; daughter Mary Warriner of Niagara Falls; two grandchildren Frank and Michael Warriner; brother Edward of Stafford; sisters Linda (Vito) DiAmbrosio of Hilton; Mary (James) Pacino of Batavia; Jane Maskell of Byron; Kathy (Gary Brown) Miller of Byron; Dawn (Dave) Herman of Brockport; sister-in-law Chana Warriner of Byron along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Barbara L. Rumsey, 76 of Batavia passed away on September 4, 2013 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born August 21, 1937 in Rochester to the late Joseph Russo and the late Rose (Reginald Darrow) Melio. Mrs. Rumsey woked for 35 years as an Administrators Assistant for St. Jerome Hospital, Genesee Memorial and United Memorial. She loved spending time with her family.  

She is survived by her son Darrow Rumsey; brother Paul Russo and sister Joanne Vergona. 

There will be no prior calling hours or services.
