DONALD F. KOCH

Alexander - Mr. Donald F. Koch, age 58, of Alexander, truck driver for Angelica Textile Services in Batavia and TW Metals in Rochester, died Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mr. Koch was born March 25, 1952 in Batavia, a son of Elon and Leona Ewert Koch of Batavia.

An avid fisherman, Mr. Koch also enjoyed camping, hunting and woodworking and was a fan of the New York Yankees.

Surviving along with his parents are his wife of 34 years, Rose Purvee Koch; his children, Amy (Bob) Koch of Alexander, Jake (Sarra) Koch of Alexander, Angela Koch of Batavia and Amanda (Marques Wright) Koch of Alexander; two brothers, Ron (Ruth) Koch of Stafford and John Koch of Alexander; a sister, Sandy (Chuck Curry) Koch of Nunda; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. A reception will follow calling hours at 5 p.m. at the Alexander Fire Department Recreation Hall, 10708 Route 98, Alexander. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

VIOLA MAE LYONS

Batavia - Mrs. Viola Mae Lyons, 97, of Batavia, a line worker at Snyder’s in Albion, died Monday, January 10, 2011at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mrs. Lyons was born April 5, 1913 in Albion, a daughter of the late Clement and Ida Allis.

She will be remembered as a hard worker who enjoyed baking pies, cakes, and bread for her family.
 
Survivors include three sons, Chester (Mary Lew) Lyons of Delevan, Richard (Tanya) Lyons of Wellsville and Franklin Lyons of Phoenix, Arizona; a daughter, Evelyn Lyons of Los Angeles, California; a sister, Edna Cusimano of Albion, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.    
 
Friends may call on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Albion Cemetery, Albion.

Mary I. Tatarka

Batavia - Mrs. Mary I. Tatarka, 88, of Batavia, died Sunday, (January 9, 2011) at her home.

Mrs. Tatarka was born September 29, 1922 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Joseph and Rosina Davi.

Mrs. Tatarka was an inspector at Doehler Jarvis and a member of Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph’s Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, taking trips to the casino and spending time with her friends.

Survivors include a son, John J. Tatarka Jr. of Batavia; two step-daughters, Connie (Ron) Matla of Fairport and Barbara Schlossel of Lockport; a brother, Phillip (Arlene) Davi of Ocala, Florida; a sister, Louise Hinton of California; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, John J. Tatarka Sr. died January 5, 1993. She is also predeceased by her brothers and sisters.

There are no prior calling hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph’s Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Batavia. Memorials may be made to the family.

Roger Bruce Fargo

 

Philadelphia - Roger Bruce Fargo, 72, of Philadelphia, a statistical analyst at Bell Atlantic in Philadelphia for 30 years, died Saturday, January 1, 2011while visiting familyin Rochester.
Mr. Fargo was born July 17, 1938 in Rochester, the son of the late Cyrus Lewis and Mildred (Mathes) Fargo.
He served with the National Guard in the early 1960’s as a border guard in Texas. He was a member of Trinity Christian Reformed Church in Broomall, PA, was a member of the Batavia High School Class of 1956, received his BA from Ohio Wesleyan University, a Master’s Degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and was studying for his Doctorate at Temple University. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi. While in the area, he was a Boy Scout with Troop 76 in Batavia and later was active with the "Open Door Mission". He was a world traveler and missionary to Asia in 2003 and 2008, an avid World Cup Soccer Fan and active in the Republican Party. 
Survivors include 4 children, Automn (John Shepard) Fargo of Rochester,  Barbara Fargo of Wellston, OH, Craig Fargo of Apopka, FL and Deborah A. (Kevin) Williams of Honeoye Falls; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.  

Services for Mr. Fargo will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Batavia First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Batavia YMCA Camp Hough on Silver Lake, 4163 W. Mrs. Clara H. Say Czajka

Batavia - Mrs. Clara H. Say Czajka, 93, of Clinton Street Road, Batavia, joyously entered into the presence of her Savior and Friend, Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center. 

Mrs. Czajka was born July 13, 1917 in Elba, a daughter of the late Ernest and Lois (Jewel) Schultz.
She was a member of Batavia Assembly of God Church. She was a sales consultant for Colonial Craft in Byron, worked at Carr’s in Batavia, but was best known for her custom made slip covers.
She is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Elwood L. Say who died in 1989.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Czajka, whom she married January 5, 1990; 3 children, Clarence (Bonnie) Say of Newfane, Marian (Lynn) Benthin of Apalachin and Colleen (Larry) Williams of Elba; a daughter-in-law, Linda Say of Pittsford, 2 sisters, Gertrude (Phil) Siniscalco of Batavia and Rosemary Warboys of Florida; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews and friends. 
She was the mother of the late Elwood Say and Damon Say and mother-in-law of the late Suzanne Say.
 
Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Batavia Assembly of God Church where services will follow at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to Batavia Assembly of God, 24 N. Spruce St., Batavia, NY 14020 or to “Back to the Bible”, PO Box 82808, Lincoln, NE 68528. Burial will be in Byron Cemetery.   Arrangements were completed by H.E. Turner & Co. MILTON E. HAWKINS

Batavia - Mr. Milton E. Hawkins, 95, who retired from the P.W. Minor Shoe Factory at the age of 83, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at home.

Mr. Hawkins was born September 4, 1915 in Batavia, the son of the late Alfred and Ethel Hermance Hawkins.
 
He served during World War II with the US Army. An avid fisherman and gardener he was a lifetime member of St. James Episcopal Church and its’ choir, a member of Ducks Unlimited, VFW, American Legion and the Civil Defense.
 
Surviving is his wife, Katherine Garrod Hawkins whom he married May 27, 1937. He was the father of the late David and brother of the late William, Alfred Jr., Robert and Edward Hawkins.
 
Survivors include two daughters, Betty (John) O'Brien of Batavia and Linda (Timothy) Munger of the state of Alabama; one sister, Dorothy Hawkins of Batavia and a sister-in-law, Maxine Hawkins of Florida. He was the grandfather of Gregory (Karen) O'Brien, Scott, Kim and Kevin Gabriel, Krystin Seales and Brittany Golden; great-grandfather of Steven, Alexander and Zachery O'Brien and Morgan Seales. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
 
Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St. Batavia. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at St. James Episcopal Church, 405 E. Main St. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba.

Robert E. Hilbert

Hilbert 76, of Batavia died Tuesday January 4, 2011 in the Batavia VA Medical Center. He was born February 14, 1934 in Batavia, NY to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Frantz) Hilbert. Mr. Hilbert was retired from National Fuel Gas where he worked for over 30 years. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of Glenn S. Loomis American Legion Post #332 and also a member of the Destroyers Escort Sailors Association. Mr. Hilbert enjoyed skiing and making cabinets. He is preceded in death by his brother Frank Hilbert and sister Joan Crimando.  
 
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Eileen M. (Kempie) Hilbert of Batavia, daughters Karen (Greg) Caya of East Aurora, Barb (Scott) Pashong of Batavia, a sister Gloria Clor of California and sister in law Maryann Hilbert of Connecticut.  3 grandchildren Quinn Caya, Eric Hill and Marin/Taj Caya survive along with several nieces and nephews. 
 
There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the Family.

Vincent James Guarino

Guarino, Vincent J.jpgVincernt James Guarino, 76, of Batavia, died Monday (January 3, 2011) at Rochester General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Batavia on May 13, 1934, a son of the late Joseph and Angeline Battaglia Guarino.

Mr. Guarino was retired from the US Postal Service and was a well known bar tender in the Batavia area.  He was the proprietor of the former Guarino's Osteria in Batavia for many years.  He served with the US Marines during the Korean War as a Radar Technichian, having attained the rank of Corporal and receiving the National Defense Service Medal.  He was a member of the Polish Falcons Club, St. Nicholas Club, Elks Club and the American L:egion Post 332 of Batavia.  He was an avid NY Yankee and Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed bowling, golf and coin collecting.


Surviving are two sons and a daughter in law: Vincent Joseph and Nancy Guarino of Bergen and Michael and Jennifer Guarino of Batavia.  Four grandchildren: Nicholas, Joshua and Kristen Guarino of Bergen and Lilah Guarino of Batavia. He was the brother of the late Salvatore Guarino and Grace Kime.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 - 7:30PM at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA where prayers will follow.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in LeRoy.

Catherine Ellen Page Munger

Lutherville, MD/Batavia – Mrs. Catherine Ellen Page Munger, 102, of Lutherville, MD and formerly of Batavia, died Wednesday (December 29, 2010) at her home. 

Mrs. Munger was born December 3, 1908 in Batavia, daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Harris) Page.

She graduated from Batavia High School in 1927.

She is the beloved wife of the late Martin Darwin Munger and devoted friend of Charmaine Rogers-McGilveary. Loving sister of the late Sarah Page Seekins and dear sister-in-law of John R. Munger Sr. of Huntsville, AL. Also surviving are two nieces, Mary Beth Munger Johnson of Columbus, GA and Lee Munger Salmon of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and two nephews, Rev. Fr. Donald (Yvonne) Seekins of Marion, VA and John Russell Munger Jr. of Huntsville, AL.

A graveside service will be held in Grandview Cemetery, Clinton Street Road in Batavia on Friday at 10:00 a.m.

Calling hours were this past Tuesday (January 4, 2011) at the Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home in Baltimore. A Memorial Service was held in Smith Hall of the Second Presbyterian Church in Baltimore also on Tuesday.

Donald C. Partis

Batavia - Donald C. Partis, 74, of Batavia, passed away Saturday, (January 1, 2011) at the Batavia Nursing Home. Don was born in Rochester September 22, 1936, a son of the late Sidney and Margaret Palmer Partis.

Don was a 1954 Madison High School, Rochester graduate and earned an electrical engineering degree from RIT in 1960. He worked as an electrical engineer at Magnavox and Sylvania for several years before becoming a sole proprietor for an Office Coffee Service for 20 years. Upon selling the business he was the office manager for Grandview Cemetery for 14 years. Don was active in Amateur Radio, especially emergency radio communications.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jeanette Armison Partis; two sons, Mark (Kathleen) Partis of Pennsylvania and Alan (Denis) Partis of South Carolina; three grandchildren, Nathaniel, Camille and Sydney Partis; two brothers, Richard (Christine) Partis of Illinois and Frederick Partis of Ohio; two brothers-in-law, Duane (Mary) Armison of Franklinville and Lynn (Rebecca) Armison of Rushford; a sister-in-law, Dolores (Carl) Civiletti of Florida; father-in-law, Alfred Armison of Florida and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, followed by a Celebration of the Life of Donald Partis buffet at Bohn’s Restaurant, Batavia. Memorials are suggested to Genesee Cancer Assistance Inc., 16 Bank Street, Batavia, NY 14020, Genesee Symphony Orchestra, P.O.
