James Irving Zipfel

Batavia - James Irving Zipfel, 82, of Batavia, died Friday, July 9, 2010at his home in Batavia.

Mr. Zipfel was born September 29, 1927 in Batavia, the son of the late Irving and Marion (Gubb) Zipfel.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Elba since July 1, 1945, a lifetime member, charter member, and past chief of the Town of Batavia Fire Department, where he was a member of the Exempt Firemen's Club. He was a dairy farmer on Batavia-Elba Townline Road until 1974 and retired from Curtis Burns in 1996 after working for over 20 years. He was a member of the Dairymen's League Co-op and Pro-Fac Co-op.

His first wife, Dorothy Bower Zipfel, died April 29, 1982. 

He is survived by his wife, Delena Sue (Carter) Zipfel whom he married November 11, 1983; 2 sons, Robert (Linda) Zipfel of Elba and William (Joyce) Zipfel of Oakfield; 3 daughters, Carol (William) Green of Oakfield, Ellen (Mark) Edwards of Frisco, TX and Patricia (Barry) Aradine of Bergen; 2 stepdaughters, Kathy Yungfleisch and Rosie (Alan) Yungfleisch, both of Elba; 2 stepsons, David (Barb) Dietrich of Batavia and Daniel (Mary) Dietrich of Williamsville; a sister, June (John) Dresser of Medina; 16 grand-children, Craig Waterman of GA, Timothy (Christine) Zipfel of Pavilion, Amy (Mark) Herman of Warsaw, Sarah (Chris) Norton of Elba, Courtney Zipfel and Carissa Zipfel, both of Batavia, Caitlin Zipfel of Oakfield, Christine Edwards of Frisco, TX, Brandon Aradine and Justin Aradine, both of Bergen, Kristen Yungfleisch and Adam Yungfleisch, both of Elba, Joseph Dietrich and Petra Dietrich, both of Batavia, Thomas Bieler of Lancaster and Ann Marie (Ted) Bodenstiener of NE; 13 great-grandchildren, Maylee and Timothy Zipfel, Alyssa, Brittney, Leigha, Craig and Destiny Waterman, Emma and Taylor Herman, Adison, Grace and Fletcher Norton, Collin and Leo Bodenstiener. 

Friends may call on Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia. The Town of Batavia Fire Department will pay respects at 6 p.m. Monday.  Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at First Presbyterian Church of Elba. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Elba, 23 N. Robert Laverne Logsdon

LeRoy - Robert Laverne Logsdon, 70, of LeRoy, a retired union mason with the Brick Layers & Allied Crafts Union Local #3 in Buffalo, died Saturday, July 10, 2010at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.

Mr. Logsdon was born July 21, 1939 in Batavia, the son of Merita (Kelly) Logsdon of Pavilion and the late Eugene Logsdon.

He enjoyed his family, antiques and Civil War history. He was an avid reader.

Surviving, along with his mother, is his wife of 49 years, Susan (Wilson) Logsdon whom he married April 29, 1961; a daughter, Christine (Jeffrey) Pesesky of Branchport; 2 grandchildren, Dylan Pesesky and Taylor Pesesky, both of Branchport; a sister, Beverly Ryan of Orchard Park, aunts & uncles, Laverne (Mary) Kelly of FL and Peter (Mary Jane) Logsdon of Pavilion; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

Friends may attend services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Catherine "Kay" Hull

Batavia - Mrs. Catherine "Kay" Hull, 89, of Batavia, died Thursday, (July 8, 2010)at the Eastside Nursing Home, in Warsaw. 

Mrs. Hull was born November 16, 1920 in Wethersfield, N.Y., a daughter of the late Ernest V. and Helen (Hackett) Squire.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church and its Sodality and also worked at the former E.N. Rowell Box Factory in Batavia. Mrs. Hull enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Lynn) Tedford of Attica; three grandchildren, Robert (Stephanie) Tedford of East Bethany, William Tedford of Batavia and Katherine Tedford of Attica; two brothers, Vincent (Irma) Squire of Batavia and Lt. Colonel William (Mitzi) Squire, Retired of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Norrine Keem of Cowlesville and Florence DiMatteo of Oakfield; two sisters-in-law, Theresa Squires of Warsaw and Doris (Alan) Hansen of Stafford; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She is the wife of the late Elmer Hull and sister of the late Edwin Squires.

Calling hours are Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Attica Fire Department, 11 Water Street, Attica, New York 14011 or Grandview Cemetery, P.O. Gordie E. Hopkins

Batavia - Mr. Gordie E. Hopkins, 56, of Batavia, died suddenly on the land that he loved in Holley on Saturday, July 3, 2010.

Mr. Hopkins was born May 19, 1954 in Buffalo, the son of the late Everett S. “Red” and Mary "Pat" (Stevens) Hopkins.

Mr. Hopkins enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing and collecting rocks. A giving man, he loved to help people and was a skilled craftsman and carpenter.

Survivors include wife, Linne (Brooks) Hopkins of Batavia; two daughters, Kerry (fiancé Mike Karbowski) Hopkins of Lewiston and Lindsey Hopkins of Oakfield; a son, Ian Hopkins of Batavia; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Talia; two sisters, Ruth (Ronald) Zentz of Basom and Patricia (Jerry Power) Hopkins of Franklinville and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by a son, Gordon Everett Hopkins.  

Calling hours are Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 at the Oakfield United Methodist Church, 2 South Main Street, Oakfield. Services will be at 2:00 Saturday also at the church. Memorials may be made to the family, to be distributed to various charities. Condolences may be made at www.burdettandsanford.com.

Kim Wolcott

wolcott.jpgKim Wolcott, 50 of Batavia, NY died July 4, 2010 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.

Born January 12, 1960 in Batavia, NY son of the late Thomas De Salvo and Viola (Cratsenberg) De Salvo of Batavia. 

Mr. Wolcott was a driver for All American Discount Cab Company of Batavia and Lockport. He was a Navy veteran, a former member of St. Nicholas Club in Batavia. Preceded in death by his father Thomas De Salvo in 2007, two brothers, Andrew and John Wolcott and a sister-in-law Lisa Wolcott. He is survived by his mother Viola De Salvo of Batavia, three children Cassandra (Michael) Kinne of Medina, Thomas J. (Katherine) Wolcott of Batavia and Anthony Wolcott of Bergen. Brothers Thomas (Mary) De Salvo of Dansville, Robert (Mary) Wolcott of Ohio, Thomas De Salvo of Batavia. Sisters Millie Wolcott of Batavia, Toni De Salvo and Patricia Magglia both of Mt. Morris , Cindy (Jon) Bush of Batavia and Tammy (Joseph) Cicatello of Batavia.   

He is also survived by four grandchildren, Joseph, Tray, Devin and Khloe and several nieces and nephews. 

Friends may call on Tuesday July 6, 2010 from 7 to 9 PM and Wednesday July 7, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 9:30 AM on Thursday July 8, 2010 at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Batavia. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.

Judith J. Parker

Batavia - Mrs. Judith J. Parker, 65, of Batavia, purchasing agent for the former St. Jerome Hospital in Batavia, died on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mrs. Parker was born September 19, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia, a daughter of the late William Harold and Dorothy Ernestine Kuhn Jahn.

Mrs. Parker graduated from the McCaulley School of Nursing and began her career at the hospital as nurse and later moved onto the position of purchasing agent. A member of the First Presbyterian Church in Batavia, she enjoyed playing the piano and knitting. She was a member of the singing group Sweet Adeline's in Orchard Park.

Her children were her whole world and she absolutely loved and adored her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Byron "Rob" Parker; three daughters, Dawn (Chris) Chugg of Batavia, Jamie (Bob) King of Livonia and Melody (Albert) Ghiloni of Cincinnati, Ohio; two step-daughters, Lisa (Mike) Dranichek and Christine (James) Dowell, both of LeRoy; a step-son,  Jason (Heidi) Parker of Batavia; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie and Felicia Mortimer, Hailey and Phillip King, Erick Chugg, Gabriella and Mia Ghiloni, Alex, Parker and Eleah Dowell, Grace and Sydney Parker; two sisters, Karen (Robert) Koscianski and Cindy (Roger) Barnes, both of Buffalo; a step-sister,  Jane (Michael) Jeffords of Byron; a sister-in-law, Patricia Fraher of Maryland; a brother-in-law, Raymond Wilson of Buffalo; her step-mother, Betty Jahn of Brockport and several nieces and nephews.

She is the sister of the late Linda Wilson.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia. Services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 East Main Street, Batavia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Memorial Medical Center Foundation, 123 North Street, Batavia. Burial will be in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.

Virginia E. Dash

Batavia - Mrs. Virginia E. Dash, 91, of Batavia, died Friday, (July 2, 2010)at the Batavia Nursing Home.

Mrs. Dash was born January 16, 1919 in Elba, the daughter of the late Howard and Milly (Scroger) Dash.

A 1937 graduate of Elba High School and Houghton College in 1941, she taught English for many years before retiring in 1972 as the Chairperson of the English Department at Batavia High School. Mrs. Dash was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elba and was very generous during her lifetime to many charitable organizations.

She left no living relatives.

As per Mrs. Dash’s wishes, there are no calling hours or funeral services. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba. Condolences may be made at www.bataviafuneralhomes.com. Arrangements were completed by the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, Batavia.

 

Muriel A. "Pat" Heubusch

Muriel A. “Pat” Heubusch, age 71, of West Buffalo Street, Warsaw, died June 26, 2010 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.

She was born June 29, 1938 in Ontario, NY, daughter of the late Albert and Arlene Poshva. For many years, she owned and operated Pat’s Upholstery Shop in Silver Springs.

Surviving are her husband, Richard Heubusch, whom she married in 1956; her sons, Jeffrey Heubusch, of Batavia, John (Ellie) Heubusch of Silver Springs; her daughters, Neva (Rex) Forkey, of Bethany, Suzanne (Terry) Flint, of Warsaw; her brother, Albert (Peggy) Poshva, of Holland, NY; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild. She was the grandmother of the late John Hummel.

Sharon L. Kennedy

sharon.jpgSharon L. Kennedy, 66 of LeRoy, NY died June 26, 2010 at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

Born July 24, 1943 in Wellsville, NY she is daughter of the late Walter E. (Dorothy L. Lever) Strouse, Jr.. 

Mrs. Kennedy worked for 35 years for Davidson & Fink law firm in Rochester, NY. She was an avid horse lover especially of quarter horses. Survived by her husband of 24 years, Donald G. Kennedy of LeRoy, her son Brian Kinney of LeRoy, her step-son Brian (Jessica) Kennedy of Indiana, her daughter Debra (Thomas) Donofrio of Rochester, and her step-daughter Kristen Kennedy of Rochester. She is also survived by her brother John (Sue) Strouse of Florida, two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great grandchild, several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday July 24, 2010 at 12 Noon at the family residence.

Mrs. R. Onolee Jackson

Oakfield - Mrs. R. Onolee Jackson, 90, a lifetime resident of the Oakfield area, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at her home.

Mrs. Jackson was born April 13, 1920 in Alabama, New York, a daughter of the late Leo and Mildred Slusser Newton.

Her greatest joy in life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Jackson was an avid golfer and participated in the league at Terry Hills for many years and enjoyed watching sports on television.

Survivors include one daughter, Sherrie (Rod) Rodriguez of Oakfield; a grandson, Scott M. Hartman of Oakfield; a granddaughter, Jodi (Scott) Nichols of Wyoming, New York; four great-grandchildren, Sarah and Chelsea Hartman and Brett and McKenzie Nichols; a sister-in-law, Virginia Newton of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

She was the wife of the late Stanley Jackson and sister of the late Gordon Newton, Doris Warner and Margaret Merkel.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor William Smith officiating. Memorials may be made to Oakfield Fire Department and Rescue Squad. Burial will be in Cary Cemetery, Oakfield. Condolences may be made at www.bataviafuneralhomes.com.
