Joseph F. Vanelli

Batavia- Mr. Joseph F. Vanelli, 85, of Batavia, passed away Friday, (June 15, 2012)at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Vanelli was born October 29, 1926 in LeRoy, a son of the late Anthony and Blanche (Hale) Vanelli.

Joe was an avid Yankee and Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He loved going to flea markets as well as garage sales.  Mr. Vanelli was a lover of antiques and liked to pass time by playing cards as well as completing jigsaw puzzles.  He also enjoyed making lamps.    

He is the husband of Alice E. (Henry) Vanelli.  They were married June 6, 1948 and recently celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary. 

Along with his wife, Joesph is survived by his daughter, Darcia (David) Barone of Batavia; four grandchildren, David (Tonya) Barone, Holly (Scott) Pownell, Marybeth (Justin McGirr) Stefani, and Timothy Barone, all of Batavia; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Loretta) Vanelli of Batavia; sister, Betty (Joe) Matinez of Stafford; and a sister-in-law, Betty Vanelli of Batavia.  Several nieces and nephews also survive. 

He is preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Michael Barone, who passed away in 1996; four siblings, Leonard (late Dorothy) Vanelli, Margaret (late Brownie) Pietrowski, Pearl (late John) Byzduzh, and Robert Vanelli. 

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia; where Joseph’s Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.  Burial, with full military honors, will take place in Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.  To leave a message of condolence, share a story, or light a candle, please visit www.bataviafuneralhomes.com.
