Joan Hahn

Joan A. Hahn, 74, of Clarence Center, passed away peacefully October 10, 2011 at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.

She was born January 28, 1937 in Newstead, NY to the late Charles and Birdie Ludecker.

Joan had a love for flowers and owned the former Flowers & More in Clarence Center.  She was also very active within the Clarence Center Vol. Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hahn and son in-law, Doug Monks.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Lawrence (Pam) Penvose of N. Canton, OH. Two daughters, Peggy Monks of Newstead and Debbie (Herman) Redman of West Jefferson, OH.  Eight grandchildren, Charles, Andrew, John and Lauren Penvose, Karie (William) Bellezza, Melissa Monks, Aaron and Derrek Coleman.  Great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Monks. Sister, Joyce Mooers of Clarence. Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call Thursday from 2-8pm at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 32 JOHN ST., AKRON.   Services will be held Friday, 10:30am at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7700 Goodrich Rd., Clarence Center, NY.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Nancy L. Walsh

Mrs. Walsh was born 68 years ago in Attica to the late Ralph and Marion (Tapp) Bruggman. She was retired from Golden Coin Laundry and was an active participant in the activities at the Genesee County Nursing Home where she had resided the past few years. She was preceded in death by a sister Elaine Burg.

She is survived by two sons Jeffrey (Cheryl) Walsh of Bethany and Timothy (Beth) Walsh of Batavia. One brother Clyde (Diane) Bruggman of Attica, a brother in law Roger (Debbie) Burg of Arizona survive along with 4 grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours and services will be private. Interment will take place at Forrest Hill Cemetery in Attica, NY. Arrangements completed by Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020.

Joseph A. DiLaura

Joseph A. DiLaura, 88 of Batavia, died October 8, 2011 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born May 3, 1923 in Batavia to the late Angelo (Angeline Tazzano) DiLaura. Mr. DiLaura worked for Laborers Union #435 in Rochester prior to his retirement. He was a member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony’s), the Veness Strollo Post #1602 and the former St. Nicholas Social Club.
            Sailor Joe, as he was known by many, was a 20 year Veteran in the United States Navy, serving in WWII and the Korean War. A man of the “Greatest Generation” Mr. DiLaura saw action in eleven major battles of WWII. He was a part of the Pacific and the Atlantic Theaters, the invasion of North Africa and the invasion of Okinawa where he served aboard the flagship, U.S.S. Bunker Hill (CV 17). The aircraft carrier Bunker Hill was the survivor of 2 kamikaze hits where 400 men were lost while engaged in the infamous “Turkey Shoot” on 11 May 1945.
             Joseph Andrew DiLaura was the recipient of many decorations, medals, and ribbons including the Presidential Unit Citation (1-star), WWII Victory Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Area (1-star), Asiatic-Pacific Area (9-stars), and the Philippine Liberation (1-star). During his career in the Navy he truly had been around the horn, literally, and always proud to have served his country.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Thomas and Frank Minuto, James and Angelo DiLaura and a sister Lena Cutitta.
                                                                                                                        
He is survived by his wife Rose (Schiavi) DiLaura of Batavia sons Joseph J.(Marianne) DiLaura, Daniel (Ann Marie) DiLaura of Batavia; daughters Angela A. DiLaura of Ft. Collins CO and Laurie Ann (Max) Sheer of Caledonia. One sister Celia Klein, a sister in law Virginia DiLaura both of Batavia survive along with 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday October 14, 2011 at 9:30 AM in Ascension Parish – St. Anthony’s site, 122 Liberty Street, Batavia, NY 14020. Interment will take place in Bath National Cemetery, Bath New York.

Donald E. Parker

Donald E. Parker, 87 of Silver Springs died October 9, 2011 at the Wyoming County Nursing Facility in Warsaw. He was born in Albion, New York on March 23, 1924 to the late Charles A. (Leona Handy) Parker. Mr. Parker is a WWII Navy Veteran and member of the American Legion. He was a member of St. Isidore’s Parish-St. Mary’s Church in Silver Springs and the Castile Historical Society. Mr. Parker loved to travel with his wife. He is preceded in death by a sister Peggy Meyers.  

He is survived by his loving wife Catherine A. (Merlo) Parker of Silver Springs; sons Donald A. (Melinda) of Perry Center; Richard E. (Cindy) Parker of Castile; brother Charles (Suzanne) Parker of East Rochester; 5 grandchildren Donald J. Parker; Trisha M. (Sean) Atwood; Anthony Parker; Stephen Parker; Alexsandra Isabella; 1 great-grandson Donald A. Parker; along with several nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. Due to a family illness a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Silver Springs.

ANDREW E. VAITER

Age 92, of Batavia, died peacefully Sunday evening October 9, 2011 at United Memorial Medical Center. He was born December 26, 1918 in Oakfield, son of the late John & Theresa Vaiter, also preceded in death by a brother Tom; sisters Anna and Angie Vaiter. Mr. Vaiter was a member of Ascension Parish (St. Anthony's) and worked for many years at Batavia Metal Products. He had a love for animals, enjoyed Bingo, horse races and was a collector of clocks. Andy has a passion for carpentry, always tinkering with things or building something original.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 46 years Rose (Syracuse) Vaiter of Batavia and a sister Helen Oles of Oakfield along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends may visit fro 9-10:30 AM Saturday October 15, 2011 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where prayers will be recited 10:30 AM followed by a 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Ascension Parish (St. Anthony's Site). Ron and Cheryl Ozzimo

Ronald G. (58) and Cheryl L. (51) Ozzimo of Castile, died October 6, 2011 in Java from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Ron was born February 16, 1953 and Cheryl was born February 8, 1960 both in Warsaw. Ron’s parents are the late Grego (Lena Cicero) Ozzimo. Cheryl’s parents are Walter (Dorothy Snow) Montelone of Perry. Ron worked for the Rochester Laborers Local 435 and Cheryl worked at East Side Nursing Home in Warsaw. Ron was a newly found gardener and cook. Cheryl enjoyed arts and crafts, and entertaining her family every Sunday for dinner. They both loved their children and granddaughter dearly.

They are survived by children Jessica L. (Derek) Mellenthine of Rochester; Ronald G., Jonathan M. Ozzimo of Castile; Granddaughter Mikayla Mellenthine of Rochester; Cheryl’s siblings Walter (Cindy) Montelone of LeRoy; Michelle (Jeff) Osman of Kennedy; Jill (Jon) Sheffield of Perry; Ron’s brothers Sal Ozzimo of Perry; Peter Ozzimo of Dansville; along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends are invited to call on Monday October 10, 2011 from 3 to 7 PM at the Funeral Home.  A 7:00 PM Funeral Services will follow calling hours on Monday October 10, 2011 at the Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Glenwood Cemetery in Perry.

Robert L. Edson

 

Robert L. "Buster" Edson, 70, of East Bethany, died Tuesday  (October 4,2011) at his residence.

 He was born in Springwater, NY on July 20, 1941, a son of the late Arthur and Nina Warden Edson.

 Mr. Edson worked for many years as a mechanic for Lor-Rob Farms in E. Bethany.

 Surviving is his wife of over 49 years, Clara French Edson.  A daughter, Tammy (Phillip) Blake of Eau Claire, PA.  Three sons, Ronald F. (fiance, Pam) Edson of Wyoming, NY, Robin L. (Cheryl) Edson of Emlenton, PA and Brian A. (Tracy) Edson of Syracuse, NY.  Nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, great niece Rachael Brown, great, great grand nieces and nephews.

 Visitation will be Sunday from 7 -9PM and Monday from 10 to 11AM at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC., 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia where services will follow. 

 Interment will be in Mitchellsville Cemetery,  Mitchellsville, NY.

June M. Randall

June M. Randall, 89 of Silver Springs, died October 3, 2011 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital. She was born June 18, 1922 in Java, NY to the late Carlisle (Finis Bush) Graves. Mrs. Randall started her early education in a one-room schoolhouse on Michigan Rd in Curriers and graduated from Arcade High School. She furthered her education at Bryant and Stratton Institute in Buffalo, followed by a position as accountant/bookkeeper for the Grange League Federation (GLF) in Perry, where she met her husband and farm partner. She and Burdette A. Randall were married on June 17, 1944 and the 65 years that followed, found them working together on their dairy and cash crops farm in the Town of Castile.
          She was an active member of Wyoming County Home Bureau, Farm Bureau and a member of the Silver Springs United Methodist Church, where she served as a member of the choir for decades. She served as bookkeeper for her husband who was Castile Town Supervisor and was an Election’s Inspector for years. Mrs. Randall was extremely proud of her agricultural heritage and their place in an active farming community. She found great pleasure in raising chickens and peddled eggs locally for years. Family members and legions of friends remember her as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She seemed to have ceaseless energy and a capacity to help anyone or any domestic animal in need. She is preceded in death by her brother Carl L. Graves; husband Burdette A. Randall who died in 2009. 

She is survived by her daughter Jane. A. (Richard) Eliasz of Castile; sons Norman C. (Susan) Randall of Castile; Eric A. (Eleanor) Randall of Alexander; sister-in-law Margaret Graves of Java; grandchildren Molly, Maggie, Nellie, Emily, Jesse and Rebecca; great-grandchildren Bailey, Jacqueline, Fiona and Robert, along with several nieces and nephews.

Floralyn Lawrence

Batavia - Floralyn Lawrence, 92, of Batavia, formerly of Corfu, passed away Sunday (October 2, 2011).

Mrs. Lawrence was born September 27, 1919, in Indian Falls, a daughter of the late Lewis and Flora Hint Johnson. She was a member of the Corfu United Presbyterian Church, the Corfu Grange and was a former 4-H leader. One of Mrs. Lawrence's favorite pastimes was reading.  She was also well known for her pie making skills. Mrs. Lawrence was predeceased in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Ralph H. Lawrence, who passed away November 9, 2008 and her brother Robert Basom.

Survivors include her dear children, Richard (the late Judith) Lawrence of Arlington, Texas, Donna (Albert) Bangert of Scituate, Mass., Roxanne (Scott) Ross of Corfu, Bill (Annie) Lawrence of Corfu and Joan Pask of Batavia; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Shirley) Basom of Rochester; two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Basom of California and Irma Jean (late Richard) Hill of Binghamton; a brother-in-law, Glenn (late Marjorie) Lawrence of Bergen; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Saturday 2 to 3:30 PM at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc. 4-6 main Street, Corfu. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 PM. John F. Ladd

 

John F. Ladd, 63, of Batavia, died Tuesday (October 4, 2011) at United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia.

 He was born in Batavia on December 21, 1947 a son of Anna Mae Ladd. 

 Mr. Ladd was employed for 32 years at Oatka Milk Products in Batavia prior to his retirement.

 Surviving is his loving wife of 42 years, Judy Ann Munt Ladd.  A son, John Jr. (fiancee, Melissa Beverly) Ladd.  Three grandchildren, Gage, Dillon and Megan.  Several cousins also survive.

 Friends may call Saturday (Oct. 8, 2011) from 2 - 5 PM at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC., 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia.  Services will be private. Burial  will be in Grand View Cemetery.

 Memorial contributions maybe made to the family for distribution to various charities.
