Mary M. Barone, 91 of Batavia, passed away on April 23, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born December 1, 1921 in Oakfield to the late Anthony (Florence Puccio) Ficarella. Mrs. Barone was a housewife who enjoyed baking and cooking. Her specialty was cream puffs and Italian cookies; over the years, many people enjoyed her talented baking. She also enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Louis R. Barone, Jr.; daughter Shirley Barone Yasses; brothers Alphonso (Mary) Ficarella, Frank (Sarah) Ficarella, Charles (Josephine) Ficarella; sisters Rose (Lewis) Schiavi, Florence (Robert) DeFreze; brother-in-law Frederick Hamilton; son-in-law Anthony J. Battaglia, Jr.
Survivors include her son Louis (Marilyn) Barone of Niskayuna, NY; daughter Diane Sochalec of Batavia; brother Sam (Nancy) Ficarella; sister Pauline Hamilton; 4 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday April 24, 2013 from 7 to 8 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. Prayers will be recited 9:00 AM at the Funeral Home followed by a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday April 25, 2013 at Resurrection Parish-St. Joseph’s Church 303 East Main St. Batavia, New York 14020. Entombment will be in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.
