By Ronald Konieczny

Milburn C. “Mel” Parmerter, 75 of Attica passed away at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 6, 2013.

Born August 5, 1938, in Gainesville, he was the son of the late George and Hazel Bauer Parmerter. On August 26, 1961 he married Jeanette “Jenny” Matteson and was a lifelong resident of the area.

He served in the U.S. Army from December 1955 through December 1958, stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska.  He was a Union Painter for 26 years working out of Local 43 in Buffalo. In 1984 he began working in maintenance at Wyoming Correctional Facility and retired from Attica Correctional Facility in 2004.  He was a member of West Star Lodge 413 Free and Accepted Masons in Varysburg and a life member of the Varysburg Fire Department.

He was fondly called “Uncle Mel” by family and friends alike; to know him was to love him. Survivors include his wife Jenny of 52 years, one son, Carl (Sue) of Attica, and two daughters, Cheryl Stringham of Attica, and Chris (Darren Krawczyk) Parmerter of Johnsonburg; four granddaughters; Courtney (Michael) Vogel of Jacksonville, NC, Carissa Parmerter, and Eliza and Emily Stringham all of Attica.

Mel donated his body to the University of Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
