Jerica Louann Marra

Jerica Louann Marra, 22, of Fallsburg, NY, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2011. She was born July 20, 1989 in Batavia. Her father was Adam Ingber and her mother Jonnelle Marra Ingber.

Before moving to South Fallsburg, Jerica attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Batavia High School. She was a former member of Resurrection Parish-St. Mary’s Church, Batavia. Jerica graduated in 2007 from Fallsburg Central High School where she played volleyball, soccer and basketball. She then continued her education at SUNY Cortland.

Jerica was employed at the Berman House, Center for Discovery. Jerica was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend to all those who knew her.

She is survived by her parents Adam and Jonnelle, sisters Johnni and Addison, brothers Brian and Jaxon, maternal grandmother Carole DiSanto, paternal grandmother Linda Ingber, uncles Jamie (Paula) Marra, Noah Ingber, Zachary Ingber, aunts Luanne Marra, Nicole DiSanto, Sara (Eddie) Ingber, cousins, Daisy Marra, Eva Saab, Ava and Kate Marra, and Aiden Fernandez. Proceeded in by her maternal grandfather John O. Marra, great-grandparents James and Marie Marra and paternal grandfather Brian Ingber.

Friends are invited to call from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday September 12, 2011 at the Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, NY 14020. Prayers will be recited 9 a.m. at the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday September 13, 2011 at Resurrection Parish-St. Mary’s Church, 18 Ellicott St. Batavia, New York 14020.

Paul H. Mansfield

Oakfield- Mr. Paul H. Mansfield, 91, of Oakfield, died Tuesday, (August 30, 2011) at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, in Buffalo.

Mr. Mansfield was born December 9, 1919 in Ashville, PA, a son of the late Henry and Eleanor (Smith) Mansfield.

Paul was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp when he was 17 and served honorably in the United States Army for nine years with the 517thParachute Infantry; achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.  He served in several campaigns, including the Battle of the Bulge, Rome-Arns, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.  In 1941, Paul served as a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.  He was a longstanding member of the American Legion Post #262 in Basom and a founding member of the VFW Post #4315 in Ashville, PA.

He worked for the U.S. Gypsum Co. in Oakfield for 8 years as well as the IBEW Local 1249 out of Syracuse for 22 years as a welder and mechanic.  He loved tinkering in his garage, golfing, and spending time with his family.  Paul was also a long time member of St. Padre Pio Parish – St. Cecelia’s Site, Oakfield.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Helen (Moran) Mansfield; daughter, Paulette (David) Brown of Batavia; two grandchildren, Samuel and Natalie, who meant the world to him.  Several nieces and nephews as well as his favorite and only godchild, Ronald Becker also survive. 

Mr. Mansfield is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth, who passed away March 25, 2001; sister, Betty; and brothers, Don, Jack, and Jim.        

Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield.  Paul’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Padre Pio Parish -  St. Cecilia's Site, 56 Maple Avenue, Oakfield.  Memorials may be made to St. Padre Pio Parish, or the American Legion Post #626, 6554 Alleghany Rd., Basom, NY, 14013.  Burial, with full military honors will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Oakfield.  Condolences may be made at www.burdettandsanford.com. Scott D. Slocum

Scott D. Slocum, 50 of Perry died Saturday August 28, 2011 at his home. He was born May 25, 1961, in Warsaw, son of Douglas L. Slocum of Perry and Patricia Kelly Humphrey of Osprey, FL. Mr. Slocum attended Perry High School, he had worked for the Laborers Union Local No. 435 in Rochester, and drove truck for Prescott Inc. in Scottsville, M&T Trucking in Pavilion, Joe Uveino Trucking in Perry and Baker and Baker in Warsaw. He was currently working for Halo Farms in Perry. He was an avid sportsman who liked hunting, being in the outdoors, and riding motorcycles. He is preceded in death by an infant sister, Laura Ann Slocum; a brother, Michael P, Slocum; grandparents Leon and Lida Slocum; Leonard and Laura Kelly.

Along with his parents he is survived by a daughter, Karissa (James) Sardina, and a son, Gregory Slocum, both of Perry; two sisters, Suzette (Todd) Barvian of Varysburg, and Sara Jackson (Robert Yencer) of Tuscarora; one brother, Steven Slocum of Warsaw; five grandchildren, Brody, Shea and Cameron Sardina; Beau and Brooke Slocum; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friends also survive.

Friends may call from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home LLC, 98 North Main Street Perry, NY 14530. Services will follow the visitation at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Perry Center.

Alan C. Doctor

Alan Charles Doctor, 56, of the Tonawanda Indian Territory,  entered into rest on Wednesday (August 24, 2011) at Erie County Medical Center.

He was born in Batavia on September 22, 1954, a son of the late LaJoie and Eloise Abrams Doctor.

Mr. Doctor was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served from 1972 to 1976. He achieved the rank of Sergeant E-5 and was awarded an Expert Rifle Badge, Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Medal.  He is a member of the Wolf Clan and was an owner of Doc's Smoke Shop.

Surviving is his wife, Monica,  three Sons, Uriah, Isaiah and Eli Smoke, three brothers, Meredith (Shirley) Doctor, Bruce (Bonnie) Doctor and Paul Doctor.  A sister, Brenda (Jeff) Batt. Nine grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be Saturday at the Tonawanda Indian Reservation Baptist Church from 11 am to 1 pm.  Services will follow at 1 pm with Rev. Robert Dean Officiating.

Burial will follow in the Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors.

SAM F. MONACHINO

Age 79, of Elba, NY, retired restaurant manager, died peacefully Tuesday morning August 23, 2011 at home with his wife by his side following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 13, 1932 in Elba son of the late Onofrio & Rose (Marabella) Monachino, also preceded in death by sisters Philippa (late George) Burns, Betty Capadano & Pauline Groulx; brothers Paul & Patsy Monachino; daughter-in-law Dawn and sister-in-law Joan Monachino. A graduate of Elba Central School and a United States Army Veteran, he was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish and a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. Sam was a kindhearted and generous man who had many interests and hobbies and who made friends wherever he went. His absolute joy in life was spending time with all the many people he loved and cared about - especially his family and cherished grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by so many but leaves behind a legacy of great spiritual faith, fortitude in the face of adversity, love & generosity of heart - all this will live on forever in the hearts of all who love and miss him.

     Surviving is his beloved wife of nearly 25 years Catherine (Ohl) Monachino of Elba; loving children Frank of Ft. Worth, TX, Michael of Clarence, Sandra (Angelo) Ciraolo of Clarence Center; brothers Onofrio (Nancy) Monachino, Joseph (Anne) Monachino all of Missouri, Thomas (Colleen) Monachino of Ohio & sister Suzanne (Donald) Drachenberg of Batavia; grandchildren Joshua, Lindsay, Courtney, Nicholas & Zachary; sisters-in-law Helen & Mary Ellen Monachino both of Batavia; brothers-in-law Amos Groulx of Ogdensburg & Harry Capadano of FL along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

     Family and friends may visit from 3:30-7:30 PM Saturday August 27 & Sunday August 28 at the Michael S. BRIAN J. KAPPERMAN

     Age 52, of Batavia, died peacefully Friday Aug. 19, 2011 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was born October 29, 1958 in Batavia, son of Margaret Kapperman-Hale of Batavia and the late Melvin Kapperman, also preceded in death by a nephew Chuck Hensel and step-father Harold Hale. Brian was a graduate of  Pembroke High School and was trained as an auto mechanic at the Lincoln Tecnical Institute in DC. An avid Nascar fan, he was a quadriplegic for 32 years and his family served as wonderful caretakers to him. Brian's family would like to thank all the health care professionals at Strong Memorial Hospital and the Genesee County Nursing Home for their care and compassion over the years.

     Surviving along with his mother are sisters Barb (Jim Carpenter) Kapperman of Batavia; Brenda (Dick) Stearns of Canandaigua; Bev (Bruce) Torquato of Covington and his brother Brad (Jan Kent) Kapperman of Batavia; adult nieces & nephews Allsion (Dennie) Lougheed of Batavia; Laura (Mark) Kulikowski of Byron; Nikki (Mike Pepe) Hall of Caledonia & Geoff (Amie) Handy of Gates; great nieces & nephews Steven & Amy Corcoran; Samantha Becker, Jessica Hensel, Spencer & Melanie Kulikowski and Courtney Lougheed; his godmother Jean Vine of Cheektowaga along with several aunts, uncles & cousins.

Rose Anna Desjardins

Oakfield - Rose Anna Desjardins, 93, of Oakfield, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 at Genesee County Nursing Home, in Batavia.

Mrs. Desjardins was born October 2, 1917 in Fort Coulonge, Quebec, the daughter of the late John and Rosalee (Bertrand) St. Jean.

She emigrated to the United States from Quebec, Canada on July 23, 1955. She was a housewife in Oakfield where she raised her children. She enjoyed spending her summer months at Fort Coulonge, Quebec, Canada at her summer home. Rose Anna will rest there now with her beloved husband and family. Au revoir, Ma Ma

Her husband, Oswald F. Desjardins, passed away in 1999.

Survivors include 6 children, Mona (Gary) Sulimowicz, Frank (Darlene) Desjardins and Richard (Pam) Desjardins all of Oakfield, John Desjardins and Annette Desjardins, both of Batavia and Nancy (Joseph) Richthammer of Basom; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She had 3 sisters and 5 brothers - 4 are still living. All of her siblings remained in Canada throughout their lifetimes - Rose Anna was the only one to leave.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Aug 23 at 7 pm at Alabama Full Gospel Fellowship, 5329 S. Gravel Rd, Medina, NY - Rt 63 just north of Alabama Center. Arrangements were completed by Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, Oakfield. Memorials may be made to the family. Burial will be in Fort Coulonge, Quebec. Cora F. Wiederhold

Cora F. Wiederhold  60 of Batavia, died  August 18, 2011  in United Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.  She was born  April 17, 1951 in Glens Falls, NY to the late Frank  and Helen (Johnson) Bruno. Mrs. Wiederhold was a homemaker, she enjoyed bingo and going to parks, was an avid Trace Adkins fan, and she was devoted to her family especially her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband’s Bernard LaCarte and Walter J. Wiederhold, a daughter Amber Lynn and a sister Clara.
                                                                                                                        

She is survived by her sons Jeremy (Tanya) LaCarte of Florida, Matthew (Stephanie) LaCarte of Batavia, daughters Brandi (Michael) LaCarte Greene and Autumn (Fiancé Reinaldo Fernandez) Harrington all of Batavia. 8 grandchildren also survive.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service will take place Tuesday August 23, 2011 at 6:00 PM at the Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main St., Batavia, New York.

Doris E. Miller

Doris E. Miller, 86 of Batavia, died August 17, 2011 at Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. She was born June 18, 1925 in East Pembroke, NY to the late LaVerne (Georgeanna Nichols) Parker. Mrs. Miller was retired from the New York State School for the Blind where she worked for 15 years. She was a former member of the East Pembroke Federated Church, the Home Bureau, and the former Moose Club. She was an avid New York Mets, Atlanta Braves and Muckdogs fan. Mrs. Miller was very devoted to her family. She is preceded in death by her husband’s George A. Lear in 1984, Lester Miller in 1994, brothers Merton “Danny” Parker, Gordon Parker and sister Eleanor Warner.

She is survived by her sons LaVerne A. (Sue) Lear of Holley; Gary Lear of Lockport;  daughters Renee (Glenn) Miller of Wyoming, NY;  Victoria Krueger of Newfane; 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, awaiting the birth of her 10th great grandchild along with many  nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Sunday Aug. 21st from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc., 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. 11:00 AM funeral services will be held on Monday Aug 22nd at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Grand View Cemetery, Batavia.

Barbara G. Mirrione

Barbara G. Mirrione, 65 of Batavia died August 17, 2011 at her home. She was born March 10, 1946 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late George (Melvadine Grube) McClemont. Mrs. Mirrione enjoyed NASCAR, arts and crafts. She is preceded in death by her husband Paul Mirrione; brother Richard McClemont.

She is survived by her sons Paul Mirrione Jr. of Batavia; George F. (Michelle) Mirrione of Pavilion; 3 grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Saturday August 20, 2011 from 3 to 7 PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. Funeral Services will be private. Interment will take place at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Corfu.
