Rodney A. Smith

Batavia - Rodney A Smith, 55, of Batavia, a Machine Operator at Whiting Overhead Door, in Akron, passed away Sunday, (September 21, 2014) at Crossroads House, in Batavia.

Mr. Smith was born January 21, 1959 in Medina, a son of Laverne Smith of Basom and the late Marilou (Goetz) Smith.

He served his country honorably with the Marine Corps from 1978-1983 and received a Navy Unit Commendation while serving in Lebanon.  Rod was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia and for several years coached youth football. 

He will be remembered for his love for his children, his Miami Dolphins and the Marine Corps.

Surviving along with his father are his children, Adam Smith of Batavia and Heather (Tim) Pahuta of Henrietta; a brother, Randy Smith of Basom; sisters, Rebecca (Mike) Cherry of Oakfield and Rosalie (Richard) Robinson of Basom; nieces and nephews, Michael (Cara) Robinson  of North Port, FL, Benjamin and Jessica Cherry of Oakfield, and Lola Robinson of North Port, FL.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co, Inc., 403 East Main St., Batavia and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Ave., Batavia.  Rod’s Funeral Service will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, (September 25, 2014) also at church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O.
