Lois A. Billington

 

Lois A. Billington, 76 of Warsaw, NY died January 24, 2011 peacefully at the Episcopal Church Home in Rochester. Born January 23, 1934 in Rochester, New York. Daughter of the late Floyd (Emma Horton) Call. Mrs. Billington was retired from Kraft General Foods in Avon. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Billington. 
 
She is survived by sons Lawrence (Belinda) of FL; David of FL; Douglas Billington of Rochester; daughter Elizabeth (Robert) Feeley of Munnsville; sister Janet Dickens of Rochester; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews also survive. 
 
Friends may call from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday January 29, 2011 at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020. Interment will take place at Grand View Cemetery in Batavia.

Addyson Zane Barker

 

barker.jpgAddyson Zane Barker, 2 ½ Months of Oakfield died January 24, 2011 at the United Memorial Medical Center. Born November 2, 2010 in Rochester, NY. She is daughter of Justin Z. Barker and Michelle C. Neth of Oakfield. She is preceded in death by great-grandfather Andrew Hastee. 
 
Surviving along with her parents are twin sister Kiley M. Barker of Oakfield; grandparents Lisa (Brian Florian) Hastee of Darien; Robert Neth Sr. of Pavilion; Donna Barker of Atlanta, GA; great-grandparents Linda Hastee of Alabama; Charles (Cathy) Neth III of Batavia; aunts and uncles Jason, Erica, Derick, Lina Barker all of Atlanta, GA; Robert Jr. of Batavia; Courtney of LeRoy;  Jacob, Jared Neth of Pavilion; along with many great aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mary Cameron Hayles

 

Mary Cameron Hayles, 92 of Brockport, NY. Went peacefully on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Lakeside Beikirch Care Center in Brockport. Born August 11, 1918 in Chilliwack, British Columbia. She is daughter of the late Henry ( Elizabeth Cameron) Eddie. Mrs. Hayles graduated from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver as a Registered Nurse. She also had her Master’s in Public School Health Administration. She retired in 1980 as a School Nurse from the Batavia Public School System. Mary is predeceased by her husband Oliver John “Jack” Hayles. 
 
Loving wife and mother, she leaves behind her children John (Hilary) of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Donald (Patricia) of  AZ; William (Patricia) of Brockport; Robert (Sandra) Hayles of Washington (State); 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren survive along with several nieces and nephews.

Max R.D. Dawson

 

   Max R.D. Dawson was born and died on Sunday January 23, 2011 at the United Memorial Medical Center. He is son of Cortney L. Dawson of LeRoy. Max will be always loved and sadly missed. 
 
Surviving along with his mother are grandparents Robert (Marianne) Dawson of Batavia; Susan (Roger) Trietly of St. Louis, MO; uncles Robert Dawson III of TN; Elijah Dawson of Batavia; and aunt Marlee Dawson of Batavia.

LISA M. (HALEY) BERARDINI

lberardini.jpgAge 47, of North Chili died peacefully Monday afternoon January 24, 2011 at her home after a long and courageous struggle with cancer, her loving family by her side. She was born March 3, 1963 in Rochester, a daughter of Philip & Patricia (Johnson) Haley of Fairport. Lisa was a Buffalo State and Geneseo State College graduate and leaves a legacy of over 24 years of teaching elementary school at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School #9. Her family, friends and students will miss her creativity, her energy and her kindness for those around her.

     Surviving along with her parents is her beloved husband Michael T. Berardini of N. Chili; her daughter and best friend Lauren Reiner; step-sons Christopher, Colin & Alex Berardini; father & mother-in-law Donald (Angie) Berardini of Batavia; sister Pamela Haley and her children Allison, Miles & Sean Hodge along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Earl L. Hamilton

Earl was born in the Town of Perry on September 22, 1928 a son of the late William and Marion McClurg Hamilton. He was a farmer his entire life farming on the family farm in Perry and later his farm in Leicester. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Perry Center, a committeeman for several business including Agway, Farm Service Agency, and Profac. He was a former assessor for the Town of Leicester. An avid collector of antique tractors and farm equipment, and John Deer memorabilia. He is preceded in death by a sister: Jean Hamilton, brothers Wayne “Bump” Hamilton, Donald Hamilton, and his twin Carl Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Green Hamilton who he married on October 14, 1950, 4 sons: Glenn (Aleta) Hamilton of Leicester, James Hamilton of Conesus Lake, Dale (Deborah) Hamilton of Dansville and Terry Hamilton of Leicester, a daughter: Tammy (Ladd) Tice of Leicester, a brother: Richard “Bud” (Mildred) Hamilton of Leicester, 2 sister-in-laws: Katherine Hamilton of Leicester, and Marlene Hamilton of Geneseo, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews survive.

Friends are invited to call from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday January 25th at the Eaton-Watson Funeral Home, LLC. 98 North Main St. Perry, NY 14530. Funeral services will be on Wednesday January 26th at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Leicester Cemetery in Leicester.

Dorothy J. Gavel

 

gavel.jpgDorothy J. Gavel, 90 of Batavia, NY, died peacefully on January 23, 2011. Born August 13, 1920 in Clarendon, New York. She is daughter of the late Karl (Jennie Foster) Jannain. Mrs. Gavel taught 5th grade in Elba for 34 years. She was wife of the Former Genesee County Sheriff Frank L. Gavel and Matron of the Genesee County Jail. Mrs. Gavel was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Batavia and arranged many trips for the Happy Agers in Alexander. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank L. Gavel (2008). 
 
She is survived by daughter Barbara L. “Bobbie” Gavel of Batavia; dear friend Lisa Kaczmarek of Wyoming and her daughters Alicia, Sarah, Cassie, and Emily along with many nieces and nephews also survive. 
 
There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba.

THEODORE G. LONGCHAMPS

 

Batavia - Mr. Theodore G. “Ted” Longchamps, age 85, of Batavia, a World War II Navy Veteran, died Sunday, January 23, 2011 at the New York State Veteran's Home.
 
Mr. Longchamps was born February 24, 1925 in Manchester, New Hampshire, a son of the late Clovis and Carmeline Cote Longchamps.
 
Mr. Longchamps proudly served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Ticonderoga for three years. He retired from the VA Hospital in 1965 and then worked for the City of Batavia D.P.W. until his retirement in 1985. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post No. 1602, American Legion and former St. Nicholas Club.
 
He is survived by his wife, Edith Hiscutt Longchamps whom he married September 16, 1995; two daughters, Kristen Flicker of New Port Beach, California and Kathleen Longchamps of Batavia; three step-sons, Paul (Beth) Hiscutt of LeRoy, Gary (Darla) Hiscutt of Batavia and Robert (Sandra) Hiscutt of Alexander; two step-daughters, Diane (Charley) Page of Wyoming and Teri (Tom) Martucci of Florida; three grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and his 12 step-great-grandchildren who knew him as "Great Ted".
 
He was predeceased by his son, Kelly Longchamps, brother Adrian Longchamps, two sisters, Louise Helie and Teresa Lemire all of New Hampshire, his great-granddaughter, Teriyana Seaburg of Florida and a step-grandson, Jeffrey Rider.
 
At his request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Batavia at a later date.  Memorials may be made to V.F.W. LEO D. STAROWITZ SR.

starowitz.jpgAge 86, lifelong Elba resident, retired Vegetable and Cash Crop farmer with Starowitz Bros., former Pesident of O and E Growers, Inc. and longtime Public Servant died peacefully Saturday evening January 22, 2011 at Crossroads House surrounded by his family. He was born March 20, 1924 in Elba, son of the late Paul and Anna (Stanek) Starowitz Sr. also preceded in death by brothers: Chester, Henry, Edmund and Rudolph Starowicz, Aloysius, Stephen Starowitz; sister Pauline Pcionek and grandson Lukas Starowitz. Leo was well known in Genesee County and the local farming community. Former Elba Town Supervisor, former member of the Elba Town Planning Board, former councilman, active member of the Farm Bureau, Cooperative Extension, former member of the Federal Land Bank and Farm Credit Assoc. Advisory Committee, former Chairman and member of the Elba-Stafford Agricultural Stabilization Town Committee, appointed by former State Senator Walter Floss to the Legislative Advisory Committee, former B.O.C.E.S. Advisory Committee, former Vice President Byron-Bergen School Board and instrumental in the restructuring of the School District. He often spoke on important community issues at Genesee County Legislature Meetings, member of Ascension Parish (former Sacred Heart) and its Holy Name Society along with the Polish Falcons Nest #493. A wonderful husband, father and grandfather Mr. Starowitz was still active in assisting his sons who now run the family business as Star Grower Farms.

     Surviving is his beloved wife of 58 years Dolores (Wolowiec) Starowitz of Elba; sons John (Pam), Frank (Samantha), Leo D. Jr. (Debbie) and Andrew (Valerie) all of Elba; daughters MaryAnn (Dave) Dorman of Batavia, Anne (Michael) Orzech of Honeoye and Barbara Starowitz of Elba. Brother (Lottie) Starowitz; sisters-in-law Mary Starowicz both of Batavia and Jennie Starowitz of Bergen. 12 grandchildren Mary Ellen, Caitlin, Amy and Anna Dorman, Sarah and Christopher Orzech, Sean, Matthew, Adam, Leo D. III, Timothy and Kalina Starowitz along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

     Family and friends may visit from 2-8 PM on Wednesday January 26, 2011 at the Michael S. Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where prayers will be recited 9:30 AM Thursday January 27, 2011 followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Ascension Parish (Sacred Heart Site) 19 Sumner Street Batavia, Celebrated by Father Pat O'keefe and assisted by Deacon John Stone. In lieu of flowers memorials in his memory are suggested  to Crossroads House 11 Liberty Street Batavia. Entombment will be in the Father T. Bernard Kelly Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Aileen Shanahan Wilkes

 

Aileen Shanahan Wilkes, 83 of Batavia. Died January 20, 2011 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. Born February 21, 1927 in Batavia, NY. Daughter of the late Michael J. (Grace Herdman) Shanahan. A lifelong resident of Batavia, Mrs. Wilkes was known for helping her husband Jack, start the Batavia Animal Hospital in the 1950’s, raising her large family, raising a large number of animals in the family home, her card clubs, bowling leagues, and enjoying her grandchildren. Kids were always welcomed at her house on Pearl St. Rd. Late in her life she enjoyed working at Oliver’s Candy Store, a great place to enjoy the “imperfects” and visit with customers. When not there, she was often on her front porch, cat in lap, visiting neighbors, or walking to the Library on Ross St. She is preceded in death by sister Nadine S. Gillard. 
 
Survivors include two sons, Todd (Jo Louise) Wilkes of Batavia; Timothy Wilkes of Newark DE; three daughters Pamela (Mike) Terry of Palm Bay, FL; Wende (David) Columbo of Camden, DE; and Amy Darron of Newark, DE; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; a niece and nephews. 
 
There will be no prior calling hours and services will be private at the convenience of the Family. Interment at Grand View Cemetery in Batavia. 
 
Memorials may be made to Volunteers for Animals and the Genesee County Nursing Home Recreation Department.
