Shirley Arlene Acheson Lang

Stafford - Shirley Arlene Acheson Lang, 86, of Stafford, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 31, 2015, as was her wish, surrounded by her family.

She was born March 4, 1929 in Buffalo, to the late George and Edna L. Eick Acheson.

She graduated from Batavia High School in 1947 after surviving Polio and spending two years in Children's Hospital in Buffalo.  She later married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Ernest W. Lang on June 28, 1953.  They made their life together residing in Stafford, raising a family for nearly 62 years.   She was a faithful member of the New Apostolic Church since 1949.  She will always be remembered for her kindness, putting her children first and being a faithful and devoted wife.  She was a lover of animals, gardening, antiques, shopping, and all things "on sale".  She appreciated the small things in life and taught her family much about being grateful to have each other.  Having survived a battle with Polio and the loss of her mother as a young girl, she possessed a deep sense of compassion and empathy for others.

She is survived by her loving husband and was the devoted mother of Lorene R. (Michael) Knapp of Jamestown, Marc E. (Nancy) Lang of Overland Park, KS and George A. Lang of Independence, MO; and proud grandmother of Matthew M. Komula, Julie A. (Eric) Eckberg, Allison E. Knapp, all of Jamestown; Catherine A. Lang, Ryan M. Lang and Andrew E. Lang, all of Overland Park, KS; Bradley W. Lang of Olathe, KS; Chad A. Lang  and daughter-in-law Lesley Lang, both of Johnstown, CO.  She was great-grandmother of Mallory, Elyse, and Benjamin Eckberg of Jamestown.

Other survivors include sisters-in-law Elizabeth Lang of Batavia and Ruth Hemry of Bergen; brother-in law, Fred Born of Rochester; cousins Anita (Walter) Gibala of Stockton, and Rosmarie Acheson of Batavia and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Lisa Ann Lang (1957) and half-brother, Kenneth J. Biro of Niagara Falls, NY, brother-in-law, Walter Lang of Batavia, sister-in-law, Helen Lang of Spencerport, brother-in-law, Herbert Hemry of Bergen and cousin Gerald Acheson of Batavia.

Calling hours are Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia.  Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at New Apostolic Church, 750 Marshall Road, Rochester.  Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Batavia.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Home Care & Hospice, 29 Liberty St., Suite 6, Batavia, NY 14020.
