Muriel I. Rafferty

Batavia - Muriel I. Rafferty, 92, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Batavia.

Muriel was born December 21, 1925 in Saranac Lake, a daughter of the late Charles and Edith (St. Louis) Brown.

Muriel was a member of Resurrection Parish and the VFW.  She volunteered her time at the Salvation Army and the former Genesee Memorial Hospital.  She was a social worker at the Genesee County Department of Social Services. Muriel loved to dance and will be remembered as a sweet lady who was loved by everyone. 

Survivors include her daughter, Pamela M. McMinn of Batavia; one son, John R. Rafferty, Jr. of Rochester; a grandson, Robert (Sheila) Neth, Jr. of Batavia; a granddaughter, Kelsey (Adrian) Platt of Florida; great-grandchildren, Makenzie Neth, Benjamin Neth and Alyiah Platt; one sister, Eleanor Gauthier of Saranac Lake; her companion, Harry Kramer of Bergen and several nieces and nephews including, Margery LaBombard of Batavia.

Muriel is the wife of the late John R. Rafferty, Sr., mother of the late Mary Ann Rafferty, grandmother of the late Danielle McMinn and sister of the late Dorothy Moody.  

Calling hours are Wednesday, December 12th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia.  Muriel’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 13th at Resurrection Parish - St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia.  She will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery, Batavia.
