GERALD F. HALE ~ Age 79, of Batavia, area educator affectionately known as, “Googie” died peacefully Friday morning March 22, 2019 at the Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Batavia. Born in Batavia, NY on March 3, 1940, a son of the late Edward J. and Eda C. (Bosseler) Hale; also preceded in death by siblings, Edward, Richard, Roland Hale and Gwendolyn Kent.

Googie was a 1958 graduate of Oakfield High School where he loved and excelled in sports, he went on to Brockport State college to receive his MBA and CSA. His career began in 1963 with LaSalle High School, 1965 on to Byron Bergen where he spent much of his time until retirement. Googie’s passion for education brought him back from retirement to serve as Principle of Grand Island Central Schools, Superintendent at Belleville-Henderson Central Schools and finally interim Principle at Attica Central Schools. He was a life member of the former St. Nicholas Club, avid golfer, enjoyed playing cards, watching sports events, winters spent in Florida and making his famous hot peppers and chili sauce. Googie, a large man in stature with an even bigger heart will be remembered for his kind, gentle ways and his love for his friends, family and his children.


He is survived by his loving children, Debra (Keith) Lucas and Scott Hale all of Wheatfield; beloved grandchildren, Cooper & Addison Lucas and Olivia Sarro-Hale; dearest companion, Diane Buchholtz of Rochester, NY; brothers, Roger (late Patricia) Hale of Naples, FL, Daniel Hale of Batavia; sisters, Judith (Dale Radka) Hale of Batavia and Monica (Edward) Dawson of Batavia; sister-in-law, Joan Hale; brother-in-law, Robert Kent both of Batavia along with many nieces and nephews.


Jerry’s family will be present from 4-8pm on Wednesday March 27, 2019 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, NY 14020. Please join the family to celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial 10:30a.m. Thursday March 28 at Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s Site), he will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in his memory to Crossroads House PO Box 403 Batavia, New York 14021 which he always supported.

He spent the last weeks of his life at Premier Genesee where he brought much joy to the residents, often asking to be brought around to share his favorite poem ~

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Jerry has now found his field of golden daffodils, rest in peace dear friend.
