Doris M. Stack Hartwig, 81, of Batavia, died peacefully on Thursday (May 22, 2014) at her residence under hospice care.

She was born in Batavia on July 1, 1932, daughter of the late Christian and Ethel Sage Schramm.

Doris was employed at P.W. Minor Shoe Factory in Batavia prior to her retirement. For several years she enjoyed watching her grandchildren and making crafts for her family.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Richard Stack who died in 1978, John Hartwig who died in 1994 and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include four sons, Pau l(Connie) Stack of Elba, Thomas Stack of Batavia, David (Sharon) Stack of Illinois and Michael Stack of Alexander.  Four daughters, Teresa Stack of Batavia, Janet Ciociola of E. Bethany, Kathleen Kelso of Basom and Marianne (Stephen) Hackett of Batavia. Brothers, Leonard Schramm of Florida and Ronald Schramm of Bergen.  Sisters, Althea Penepent of Byron and Marie Uptgrove of Castile.  Also survived by 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Arthur Ray Travis, 92, passed away on May 12, 2014. He was born on December 22, 1921 in Elmira Heights, NY to the late Floyd and Leona Travis.  Arthur married Doris Bauer on August 25, 1943 and enjoyed 55 years of marriage until Doris passed away in 1998.  He is also preceded in death by his son Arthur Travis Jr.

Arthur was a Pearl Harbor Survivor, who went on to spend 20 years in the Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer.  Following his Navy retirement, he was a road crew worker for the State of New York which he also retired from.

He is survived by his sons; Terry (Mary) Travis of South Bend, IN,  John (Diane) Travis of Ruby, MI and Jeff (Tina) Travis of Indian Trail, NC; daughter-in-law Linda Travis of Newport, NC, along with 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. 

Friends and family are invited to call from 6 to 7 PM on Wednesday May 28, 2014 at the Marley Funeral Home, LLC.  135 Main Street Attica, New York 14011 with a Masonic Funeral Ceremony following at 7 PM.  An 11:00AM Funeral Service will be held at the Johnsonburg United Methodist Church, 3025 Route 98, Varysburg, NY 14167. There will be a Graveside Service with Military Honors at the Johnsonburg Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.

Stafford ~ David J. Panek, age 51, of Transit Road, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, May 18, 2014.

     Mr. Panek was born June 24, 1962 in Batavia, N.Y., a son of the late Edward and Rosemary Lamendola Panek.

     He was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley-Davidson and snowmobile.  He was also a Brother of the Steel Eagles Motorcycle Club.

     Mr. Panek is survived by his daughter, Nicole (Nicholas) Thompson of Wyoming, grandsons; Blake and Aidan Thompson; brothers, Duane (Carol) Lamendola of Chili, Ed Panek of Batavia, Robert Panek of Daytona Beach and Ronald (Gerri) Panek of Wyoming; sisters, Denise (Robert) Renouf of Hornell, Sheree Panek of Pavilion and Mary (David) Coates of LeRoy; mother and father in law, Kathy and Charles Snyder II of Osceola, NY, sister in law, Tara (Charles) Beck of Osceola, NY, brother in law, Charles Snyder III of Osceola, NY, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Heather Snyder Panek.

Henry A. Dylag, 80, of Corfu, passed away Sunday (May 18, 2014) at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital in Williamsville.
 
He was born in Lancaster, NY on October 18, 1933, son of the late Walter and Mary Ciesla Dylag.
 
Mr. Dylag was employed as a machinist at Conax in Cheektowaga for more than 33 years prior to his retirement.  He was a member of the Sportsters Rod and Gun Club of Indian Falls for over 25 years and had a great love for the outdoors, nature, hunting and working in his garden.
 
He was predeceased by a son, Henry John Dylag and siblings, Joseph, John and Edwin Dylag, Mary Darmstedter, Victoria Jankowski, Adeline Raykowski, Helen Kokot, Jane Kokot and Alice Konieczko.
 
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Hilda Guenther Dylag of Corfu. Daughters, Linda (David) Yohn of Corfu and Jane (William) Bergmann of Clarence.  Sons, Donald (Joan) Dylag of IndianFalls, Michael (Shelly) Dylag of Attica and Robert Dylag of Corfu.  Sister, Stella Balicki of Lackawanna. Sister in-law, Elizabeth Dylag and Brother in-law, Michael Konieczko.Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, nieces and nephews.

Oakfield – Jeffrey E. Muntz, 31, of Oakfield, a Fork Lift Operator at US Gypsum, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, (May 15, 2014) at Medina Memorial Health Care System, in Medina.

Mr. Muntz was born March 28, 1983 in Batavia, a son of Roy and Shelly (Waite) Muntz, Jr. of Oakfield.

He greatly enjoyed fishing, riding his wheeler, and his dogs.  Jeff had an incredible sense of humor.  He was a practical jokester who loved to laugh and make others laugh.  He had a heart of gold, and would help anyone he could. 

 

Jeff will be remembered for his belief that you only live once, for his love of pizza, and most of all, for his smile.

He is the husband of Lindsay Ryan-Muntz, of Bergen.  The two were married June 18, 2011.

Surviving along with his wife and parents are his brothers, Roy Muntz, III of Batavia, Alan and Robert Muntz both of Oakfield; maternal grandparents, Darwin Waite of NC, and Doris Waite of Oakfield; paternal grandparents, Roy and Evelyn Muntz, Sr. of Oakfield; a nephew, Roy Muntz, IV of Batavia.  Several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends also survive.

He is preceded in death by an uncle, Brett Waite.

Donald A. Smith, 91, of the Manor House, Batavia (formerly of Alexander) passed away Wednesday (May 14, 2014) at the United Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on August 18, 1922, in East Syracuse, the son of Arthur and Ida (Bethka) Smith.

After graduating from East Syracuse High School Donald entered the 8th Air Force, 305th Bomb Group, in England as a tail-gunner. Upon returning from WWII, he graduated from Cornell University, and was initially employed with the American Agricultural Chemical Co. He then worked as a Counselor and Parole Officer at Attica State Prison, then was Assistant Director at Rochester Community Correction Center, and returned to Attica to retire.

Donald lived for 57 years with his family in Alexander, and enjoyed vegetable gardening, golfing, playing cards, traveling, and many winters spent in Florida at Campers Holiday. He was a long time member of the Alexander Fire Department and the Alexander United Methodist Church. For the past two and a half years, he has loved the warm support and companionship of residents and staff at the Manor House Senior Living Apartments in Batavia.

Donald was predeceased by his wife, Joan (Morgan) who died December 29, 2011; sister and brother-in-law, Betty L. (Dr.Charles V.) DeFuria; sister and brother-in-law, Thelma (Steve G.) Orman, sister Beulah R. (Earl) Stone, brother Carl B. Smith and son-in-law Jack (Donna) Long.

He is survived by his six children, Morgan (Lynae) Smith of Rochester, Nancy (Hogaku) Tsurumaki of Tokyo, Japan, Barbara (Allen) Johnson of Rochester, Audrey Watson of Syracuse, Donna Long of Pulaski, VA., Carol (Brian) Vaci of Myrtle Beach S.C., 13 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

A memorial gathering will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12 at the Alexander United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alexander Fire Department, P.O. Roxanna L. "Roxy" Lawless, age 75, of Perry died on Wednesday May 14th at the home of her son in Florida. She was born in Albion, New York a daughter of the late Richard (Jean Howes) Brown. She is preceded in death by her brother Richard Brown II.

Roxy graduated with her Bachelors degree in education from SUNY Geneseo. She taught school at many area schools, retiring from Warsaw Elementary School in 2003 where she taught 4th grade for 11 years, prior to Warsaw Elementary she was a substitute teacher for Perry Central School. Her love was to teach children, she was a mentor to many people, she was considered by many as a mother or grandmother. She enjoyed spending her time with her family.

She is survived by her husband whom her married on January 2, 1974 Leo Lawless, a daughter: Monica Salamone of Ft. Myers, Fl., 3 sons: Mark (Katrina) Barone of Ocala, Fl., Matthew Lawless of Kearny, NJ, Christopher Lawless of Jeffersonville, VT., a sister: Linda (John) Dale of Albion, 10 grandchildren: William (Sara) Emmons, Nicholas Emmons, Michael Sturm, Jacob Cartwright, Krista Barone, Joel Barone, Sarah Safford, Justin Safford, and Victoria Safford, 8 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

LeRoy ~ Rosemary Wagner, age 89, of Bradnell Avenue, passed away Thursday morning (May 15, 2014) at Highland Hospital in Rochester.

     Mrs. Wagner was born February 7, 1925 in Buffalo, a daughter of the late James and Mary McElroy Hurley.

     She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish and was actively involved with many other community organizations.

     Mrs. Wagner is survived by her children; Ann Marie (William) Dowdle of Whitinsville, MA, Robert (Connie) Wagner of Jamestown, Susan (Peter) Weaver of LeRoy, Daniel (Carolyn) Wagner of Pittsford, Gretchen (John) Cecchini of Allentown, PA and Michael (Kristin) Wagner of Troy, IL; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Angela (Frank) O'Connor of NJ; several nieces and nephews and many treasured friends.  She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Wagner, along with 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

Timothy Jay Hensen, 57, of Cowlesville passed away on Monday May 12, 2014 at his home. He was born September 27, 1956 in Buffalo, NY to the late Donald E. Hensen (Virginia M. Killian) Hensen. Mr. Hensen was a member of the United Church of Christ.

Timothy is survived by a brother Craig (Kathleen) Hensen and a sister Donna Bischoff  both of Cowlesville. 

There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the Family.

Batavia - Mrs. Jean V. Schelle, 90, retired administrative assistant at M & T Bank in Batavia, died Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Schelle was born April 15, 1924 in Batavia, the daughter of the late Richard and Mary (Conley) Sheer.

Her husband, Arthur (Bus) Schelle, died in 2002.

Survivors include one daughter, Marlene (Francis) Lambert of Rochester, a special niece, Sandra (Roger) Bohn of Batavia and several nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late Richard Sheer, Donald Sheer, Rosemary Gonyea, Beverly Betties, Dorothy Bennett and Virginia Sheer.

There will be no prior visitation.  Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11:00am

at Grand View Cemetery in Batavia.  Memorials may be made to SPCA.  Arrangements were completed by the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home of Batavia.
