Lois Spaulding

By T.J. Woodward

Lois Clark (Boyce) Spaulding, 91, passed away on April 7, 2020 at Brothers of Mercy where she had been a resident for a short time. She was born on January 14, 1929 to the late Russell and Dorothy Clark of Batavia.  Lois was pre-deceased by former husband Carl Boyce, second husband Benjamin Spaulding, daughters Susan (Boyce) Ingalsbe and Cindy Boyce and a sister Barbara Clark.

Lois married shortly after completing high school and started a family. She didn’t have much time for hobbies in those days but enjoyed family outings at Godfrey’s Pond and Conesus Lake. The family continued to grow, but some years later she experienced some personal tragedies and then faced the challenge of being a single mother during a time when that was very uncommon. Ben restored her faith in love. During their time together she was introduced to camping and loved spending time at his campsite in Darien. Unfortunately, their time together was brief. She spent the next twenty years pursuing her interests in local history and quilting, and she attained life membership status with the Town of Batavia Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Her third and final love was longtime companion, the late Charles Barone of Akron. They had great adventures together traveling locally during the spring, summer and fall and throughout the south and mid-west during the winter months for many years.

Lois is survived by twin sons Donald Boyce of MA, Ronald (Gardenia) Boyce of NC, daughter Sharri (Lee) Gray of Corfu, son-in-law Kenneth Ingalsbe of Indian Falls, step-daughters Michelle Appleby, Dawn (Michael) Amos and Debbie (Robert) Lambert and their families, grandchildren Andrew Boyce, Abigail Boyce, Brian (Lori Schwab) Ingalsbe, Brooke (Matthew) Ohar, Lee (Marie) Gray Jr and Trevor (Lindsay) Gray, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She is also survived by her sisters Sandra (Darian) Goddard of Batavia and Deborah Clark of Texas and nieces Gale (Jeffrey) Wright and Wendy Taylor.

A Memorial Service may be planned at a later date at the convenience of the family.
