Frank R. Gallaway

Oakfield - Mr. Frank R. Gallaway, 82, of Oakfield, a Plant Manager for Comstock Foods in Oakfield prior to his retirement, died Thursday, November 25, 2010at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia after being stricken at his home.

Mr. Gallaway was born January 7, 1928 in Dunkirk, a son of the late Frank A. and Irene (Olrogge) Gallaway.
 
He was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish (St. Cecelia’s Church) since 1972, where he served as grounds keeper and cemetery caretaker. He was the founder and present leader of the Merrymen Crew. A graduate of North Collens High School, he was a former member of the North Collins Fire Department, N. Collins School Board, and Rotary Club. After moving to Oakfield, he joined the Lions Club where he was a member for over 35 years, Oakfield Fire Department, active in Oakfield Little League, Town of Oakfield Board, Genesee County Planning Board, and served as liaison on projects between the Town and Village of Oakfield. He was the project manager for remodeling of the Oakfield Presbyterian Church and St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecelia's Worship site, the Catholic church in Darien and was instrumental in the reconstruction of the North Collins School House #8.
 
He had a personal connection with Santa Clause.
 
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Zulawski) Gallaway, whom he married August 4, 1951; 2 daughters, Judy (Tom) Leaton of Liverpool and Debbie (Jerry) Armbruster of Oakfield; a son, Patrick (Kathy) Gallaway of Pembroke; 12 grandchildren, Brian (Laura) Leaton, Ellen (Jeffrey) Hoppe and Brenda (Tom) Bray, all of Liverpool, Natalie (James) Emerson and Chad (Sonja) Armbrewster, both of Oakfield, Jeannine Armbrewster of Batavia, Sara (Clifton) Johnson of TX, Jason Gallaway, James Morford, Adam Gallaway, Megan Gallaway and Collin Gallaway, all of Pembroke; and granddog, Oscar; 10 great-grandchildren, Jack, Graham, Benjamin, Aubrey, Kali, Gaige, Gavin, Owen, Emma and Alex; 2 brothers, Richard (Betty) Gallaway of VA and Dean (Marge) Gallaway of Langford; 3 sisters, Barbara Boyle of FL, Donna Frank of West Valley and Sandy (Bob) Kaczmarek of Brant; 2 brothers-in-law, 1 sister-in-law, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. 
 
was the brother of the late Elizabeth Saabye. 
 
Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where prayers at 9:30 a.m. Monday will be followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecelia’s Worship Site. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to School House #8 Historical Center, 2101 School St., North Collins, NY 14111 or to St. Padre Pio Parish, 56 Maple Ave., Oakfield, NY 14125. Burial will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Oakfield.

Wayne Smith

Medina - Mr. Wayne Smith, 72, of Medina and formerly of Basom, died Saturday, (November 20, 2010)at Orchard Manor, in Medina.
Mr. Smith was born July 23, 1938 in Medina, son of the late Norman and Viola (Quackenbush) Smith.
He is survived by several cousins.
There are no prior calling hours and services will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Corfu. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. DEAN HOWARTH LAPP

 

Dean Howarth Lapp, 93, died Friday, November 15, 2010 at United Memorial Medical Center.
 
Dean was born and grew up in LeRoy, the son of John and Ethna Visscher Lapp. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 1939. By this time, he had met Barbara Schaffner and they married in 1940. From that day on, they remained a devoted couple for 68 years. They made every day a new and enjoyable adventure for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Barbara died in 2009. Dean is survived by a brother, Sumner Lapp, four children and their families: Henry and Ruth Raynor Lapp, Forrest and Christine Lapp Williamson, Dean and Betty Pcionek Lapp, and Daniel and Mary Klemm Lapp, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 For his entire career, Dean worked for the Lapp Insulator, a company founded by his father. In 1955, with four children, Dean and Barbara bravely took on the renovation of that big old house in Alexander. For the next 53 years, they led a peaceful life in the country. It was always a good day when Dean could find an excuse to drive his tractor. For the past four years, Dean resided at the Manor House in Batavia, where he enjoyed his neighbors and extra fine care.

 At the age of ten, Dean began playing golf and loved the game for the next 75 years. And he was pretty good too! He was the Stafford Country Club champion twice - getting two hole-in-ones in his lifetime. For decades, he enjoyed Saturday morning gatherings in the back room of Genesee Hardware. He was active in the Rotary and  Boy Scouts and for many years, served on the boards of Alexander Central School, BOCES, and Genesee Memorial Hospital.

You may have known these things about Dean, but did you know he would juggle whatever was in the fruit bowl for his children while Barb made dinner; and that he loved a good magic show? Did you know that 50 years ago, he built a snowblower but it only worked when he went backwards...or that he held the javelin throwing record at the University of Rochester? Did you know that he never ate a cucumber or pickle in his entire long life...or that he figured out that bats can not read the sonar of a tennis racquet so he always kept two handy for catching bats in the house? Did you know that he lost a nickel 90 years ago and whenever he took the family on a Sunday drive, one goal was to drive by the LeRoy gravel pit to see if they had found the nickel yet or if they were still digging and looking for it? In honor of Dean, drive by that gravel pit and check to see if they found his nickel yet or are they still digging! He had a great life and his family will miss him.

JEFFERY D. REPASS

Age 48, of Pine Street in Oakfield, a 29 year employee of the U.S. Gypsum Co. and owner of J.R. Recycle died Sunday Nov. 21, 2010 at home. Jeff was born April 15, 1962 in Batavia, the son of Russell & Mary (Skelton) Repass of Oakfield. He graduated from Oakfield-Alabama High School. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed deer hunting with his father, sons and son-in-law, along with fishing, trapping and riding his ATV with his family. When not in the woods, you could find him with his wife and daughter cheering on Team Ripass Racing, which starred his two talented sons. Jeff also claimed a record setting buck in 1994.

He is survived by his faithfull wife of 28 years, Maureen (Graves) Repass, a daughter Jamee (Ian) D'Alba, two sons Jesse & Jade Repass all of Oakfield, two sisters, Julie (Terry) Watterson of Oakfield & Jessica (John) Duyssen of Stafford. He was also the proud grandfather of Cyrus D'Alba. He is also survived by several nephews.

William H. Livingston

William H. Livingston, 73 of Perry, NY died November 19, 2010 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. Born in Waterbury, CT on April 3, 1937, son of the late William H. (Alice Plank) Livingston. Mr. Livingston was a United States Air Force Veteran, member of the Perry Vets Club and VFW. He worked at Lapp Insulator in LeRoy for over 40 years and was a long time member of the First Congregational Church in Perry Center. After retirement he enjoyed his work as lunchroom monitor at Perry Elementary School.
 

He is survived by his wife of 30 years Dorothy (McMaster) Livingston of Perry; sons William (Christine) Livingston III of Naples; Timothy (Jessica) Livingston of NC; daughters LuAnne (Lester) Roberts of Castile; Lisa (Robert) Bernard of Silver Lake; Lynn (Alan) Lonsberry of Silver Springs; Nicole (Jarrod) Neal of North Collins; brothers Robert (Judy) of LA; George (Mary Ann) of NC; Gilbert (Frances) Livingston of Warsaw; sisters Patricia (Arnold) Ward of Castile; Eleanor Carr of Fillmore; Diane Elliott of HA; 11 grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Maria E. Stoddard

 

Batavia - Maria E. Stoddard, 69, of Batavia, died Friday, (November 19, 2010) at Sisters of Charity Hospital, in Buffalo.

Mrs. Stoddard was born September 5, 1941 in Buffalo, a daughter of the late Alexander and Margaret (Fusco) Sharon.

After her retirement from the V.A. Hospital in Batavia, where she was a housekeeper, Mrs. Stoddard was a teacher's aide at the Genesee County Child Daycare. She loved Halloween, having collected many costumes and also enjoyed garage sales.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Sharon of Grand Island and Justin Stoddard of Bellevue, Washington; a daughter, Margaret Pillo of Batavia; two sisters, Shirley Costello of Florida and Carol (Kenneth) Knoll of Lancaster; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Genevieve (Jean) Rozanski

 

Genevieve (Jean) Rozanski passed away at home in the care of her family after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, November 17, 2010.
 
Jean was born on May 17, 1918 to Antoinette Goral and Michael Jakubaszek. She moved to Perry, NY in 1933 and worked at the former Perry Knitting Mill. She married the late Chester J. Rozanski in October 1937 and they resided in Perry and in Sebring, Florida.
 
Jean helped her husband manage Rozanski Motors, Inc. She was very active with traveling, gardening and making pierogis with her husband and she was an accomplished artist in the ceramic arts. She and her husband raised two children and babysat all six of their grandchildren. Her life was full with friendships and family throughout the country.
 
Jean was predeceased by her daughter, Marsha J. Brooks (Douglas) in 1997; her son, Chester R. Rozanski (Helene Talone) in 2001; her husband Chester J. Rozanski in 2002; and her sisters, Helen Buzak, Janet Borek, Celia Falsone and Alfreda Kolodziej.
 
Jean is survived by her brothers, Joseph Jakubaszek of Dansville; John Jakubaszek (Isabel) of Castile; her grandchildren Tracy Rozanski of Perry, NY, Scott Rozanski (Kim Bauer) of Avon, NY, Monique Rozanski of Perry, NY, Lt. Major Aaron Brooks (Christy) of Hawaii, Kristin Buisch (Adrian) of Rochester, NY, Michael Brooks of Saudi Arabia, countless nieces and nephews and 6 great-grandchildren (Kaileen, Hannah, Gabrielle, Jessica Rozanski, Aiden and Kingsley Brooks).

Carl L. Spikes

Batavia - Mr. Carl L. Spikes Sr., 51, an employee of Cold Springs Construction in Akron, died Tuesday, (November 16, 2010) at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Spikes was born July 15, 1959 in Pace, MS, the son of David Jones, Sr. of Florida and Oleatha (Olivia) Spikes Brown of Elba. 

He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

He was the father of Carl L. Spikes, Jr. Jermaine, Josiah, Christopher, Kayden, Shanda Spikes, Carla Spikes, Hannah Spikes and Leah; brother of Roosevelt Muhammad Jr., Laura Santiago, Naomi Brown and Jannie Brown; nephew of Drew, Levi, Oliver, Melvin, James and Dorothy Spikes and Jennie Sabb. Also surviving are grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. 

He was brother of the late Peter J. Greene.

Robert G. (Poncho) Michalak

Batavia - Mr. Robert G. (Poncho) Michalak, 66, of Batavia, the retired owner of Paint Decor, died Wednesday (November 17, 2010) at the Highland Health System, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Michalak was born December 26, 1943 in Batavia, a son of the late Anthony and Irene Dymczak Michalak who survives and lives in LeRoy.

He graduated from Oakfield-Alabama High School and Bryant & Stratton Business Institue and was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecelia’s Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially treasured his family vacations.

A veteran of the Vietnam War he served as a Platoon Sergeant with the 4th Infantry Division of the US Army.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan M. Berg Michalak; three daughters, Amy (Calvin) Nichols and Becky Michalak, both of Batavia and Sarah (Jeffrey) Zimmer of Williamsville; two brothers Anthony (Peggy) Michalak of Oakfield and John (Patti) Michalak of Batavia. He was the grandfather of Jake and Cali Nichols, Ethan Biscaro and Jack and Drew Zimmer; the brother-in-law of Jack Bishop of Texas, Tony (Shirley) Fasano of Batavia and Vernon (Donna) Berg of Indiana. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Bishop and infant twin sons.

Ann Marie Adamski Hurley

HURLEY, ANN.jpgAnn Marie (Hebell) Adamski Hurley, 59, of Batavia, died Monday (November 15, 2010) at her residence.

She was born in Batavia on June 24, 1951, a daughter of Russell and Marion Earl Hebell of Batavia.

Ann Marie was a 1970 graduate of Alexander Central School and a 1971 graduate of Catherine McAuley School of Practical Nursing.  She was an LPN for over 37 years at Genesee County Nursing Home prior to her retirement.  Spending quality time with her grandchild and family was her favorite past time along with attending City Church, jamborees and concerts.  She traveled to Italy two times and spent many vacations at Lime Lake.  Ann always put other people's needs befor her own.  She was the best loving mom, grandma, daughter, sister,  aunt  and friend ever.

Surviving besides her parents are her daughters: Christina (Michael) Bak of Basom and Pamela Adamski of Batavia.  Her grand daughter, Olivia Mae Walton.  Two step sons: Paul Adamski Jr. and Michael (Cynthia) Adamski both of NC.  A brother, David (Sylvia) Hebell of Batavia.  A sister, Linda Virgo of Wayland, NY.  One nephew Charles Hebell.  Two nieces: Milissa Rector and Deanna Virgo.  Great nephew, Noah Rector. Great niece, Jenna Jaszko.  An uncle, Lee (Linda) Hebell of Webster, NY.

She was the loving aunt of Matthew Hebell who died on May 3, 2008.

Friends may call Friday from 4 - 8 PM at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA.   Services will be Satueday at 11AM at the funeral home with Rev. Martin McDonald officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in E. Bethany.
